I've kept my mouth shut for a while on this thread, just waiting to see. I agree, from some angles it can look suspect. However, what I hear more people saying, in essence, is... "If it were me, I would..." I understand the desire to say that, but we ARE talking about a new collector (as stated by the OP). I didn't get a security bit for my games until a couple of years into collecting, so I understand if he doesn't just plaster this post with thousands of pictures of the board from every angle in 10 different kinds of lighting.

I do understand that Qix offered to meet him and he didn't want to. We don't know what that's about, but it could be anything. Maybe he's a little wary of meeting someone online that he doesn't know because it's dealing with a product that is worth thousands of dollars. I don't doubt in any way, shape, or form Qix's reliability... I would meet him, too, if I thought I had the real deal. The big BUT is this: "BUT, he isn't me."

As you all know, this will be found out as true or fake eventually. I understand everyone's initial skepticism, but we will all need to wait and see. I hope that this is true, I would super be pumped for the OP. Good luck, brother, I hope it all turns out great. I'll keep reading and see.

Given the reponse in this thread calling him a liar and a scammer would YOU want to meet up with someone on this forum?  Plus he's new and probably doesn't know the people here that well so I can't fault him at all for refusing to meet up.

It happens in all hobbies. Would you assume a Babe Ruth signed baseball without a certificate of authenticity is real? Would you assume a Michael Jordan rookie card in ungraded shape is real? The #1 items in a hobby become so saturated with fakes that you automatically assume fake until there is convincing evidence otherwise.

If you think NES carts aren't there yet, or will never be there, you are in denial. The sooner you start taking proactive measures to protect and educate yourself, the better off you will be. Or you can just assume everything is real and hope for the best. Ignorance is bliss they say.

If you don't have a security bit, take a BIC pen, heat the bottom tip and mold it on one of the cheap carts, like a Ring King bit. It won't be the best security bit in the world, but I guarantee it will work on 3 of them, enough to open up a cart.

So are there any other excuses people would like to propose? Scared of the world and not having a bit won't cut it.

Unless they came both ways, I just checked mine and it has the regular screws like the 5 screw carts instead of the security bits.

1. I've personally not called this guy a liar.
2. He stopped by the NA booth and introduced himself last fall
3. I was the one at the booth

I'm game, if today doesn't work Robert, I'm free all weekend long. Anytime, any hour.  I'd even meet up with you, buy you a beer and chat up some gaming stuff... and if it's fake, no problem, if it's real, wonderful - i'll trade you beers for stadium events. straight across trade, sound good?

Yeah I didn't mean to come off that brash and didn't know the details.  I can see his skepticism if it's the real deal and it being a high priced item, but ultimately it has to come down to him.  Hopefully he can get the tool himself or find someone trustworthy (you) to do it.  I really want this to be real but he's got to take some initiative [sic]

Yes, they do. He just needs a small screw driver. I didn't feel like rereading, did he say he didn't have a bit to open it?
I didn't believe it was a scam until his second post. And I came in here to post what bearcat did about the screws. It had occurred to me while I was at work.

He had a chance to shut everyone up, but instead became evasive. No one posts something for attention, and then avoids attention unless he's hiding something. I have never seen anyone prove an internet community when it's gotten this far.

i am a new collector, i wouldnt even attempt to open my game up and mess anything up in attempting. i wouldnt meet anyone with a three thousand dollar game that i didnt know either.

but really the only story that can be considered legit is i found an add and a lady had a bunch of games and this was one of them and i also bought a bunch of commons with it to make it look more believable.

I NEVER POST COMMON GAMES BUT WHEN I DO ITS WITH STADIUM EVENTS TO MAKE IT LOOK LEGIT

LMAO if this came with the standard screws.  I gotta say this is a great thread to catch up on every few hours of work.  As for the OP, obviously they knew Stadium Events was brag-worthy, so the comments in this thread can't be that big of a surprise.  I totally agree that nobody personally bashed the OP, just questioned the credibility which is fully warranted in this case.

Seriously talked on Craigslist over a week for a $4 game?  I sure hope this is real, but the lack of attempted effort in verifying this game heavily suggests a fairy tale...

That was my impression, I just double checked mine to make sure. That kinda shoots a hole in the not having a security bit excuse when you can go to any hardware store, AutoZone, etc and get a small enough flathead screwdriver to open it up. If it has security bits instead of screws that would suggest something is off in itself.

Wow, i just HAD to check my SE cart now...

Standard flat head screws. No game bit needed for an SE. Doesn't seem like it would be all too difficult for anyone to open.
