Hey, that's pretty cool! I've always thought it would be funny to use an e-paper display for a cart label, because that would keep the image after you remove power. But I'm sure it would be more expensive, especially for a large sized one. LCD prices are pretty amazing these days.

I looked for some but they were all large (5"+) for tablets, and needed a real video interface ($$$).  This one has simple SPI so cart hardware is only a small CPLD which also acts as the level translator for the flash     There were e-inks in the $20-30 range around a year ago.

In this case color is also important to reproduce the previous xmas cart label art.

Added the flash chip and got it programming, so now it can show a real image on the LCD! Takes ~1.5 secs to copy the whole image. I can probably unroll loops to get it faster, but the drawing process will always be visible.

Ok, I need months to understand what others understand in seconds, and I often got things wrong. So, sorry for bothering if this is a silly question, and everyone else already got it right, but, I have to ask, because I am curious about it now:

"" is this screen (which you call 'label' ) going to be placed on each Xmas 2017 cart!? "" *wondering*.

If so, that's impressive for real, not just and only from a technical perspective (and this would already be plenty enough!), but also from a creativity perspective. The idea is great, the result (from the picture that you published) looks amazing, and the concept is really fun (in a positive way), I think.

I hope that I got it right, and in any case, well done!

Edit: removed a smiley not supposed to be there.
Edit II: removed the incorrect "LE" acronym from the question.

I was under the impression every Xmas 2017 cart sold was going to have the LED label.

This could be a preamble to the coolest LE powerpak ever. An led label for the powerpak might be cooler than the AVS. Mind blowing.

Here is to hoping that the LE AVS owners get a shot at any preorder.

How about everyone just has a fair shot? If it's a pre-order how about just a drawing?

He's never done pre-orders for the XMAS stuff. Not sure why there's so many references to the possibility.

He's only done a pre-order for future AVS's since they sold out so quickly.

That's what I'm hoping for, business as usual. I think people are jumping the gun because that's how everyone else tends to do it.
