Hey everyone!  This week's game is going to be Double Dragon, but there is going to be a twist to it this week.  Instead of it being a high score contest, it's going to be a low score contest.  That's right, you want to get the lowest score possible on this game.  But wait, there's more.  You also want to get as far in the game as possible.  And if you beat the game, there will be a bonus depending on how many lives you have left.  Here are the rules:
  • Play until Game Over.  If you get a Game Over, be ready to take your picture because the screen will not stay up long until it resets to the Title Screen.
  • The score of the player who lost their last life furthest in the game takes precendence.
  • If two players get a Game Over in the same area, the lowest score takes precedence.

Now, here are the bonuses if you beat the game.

  • If you beat the game on your last life, you get no bonus.
  • If you beat the game and have 1 extra life remaining (your life meter says P-1), subtract 5,000 points from your score.
  • If you beat the game and have all your lives remaining (no-deathing the game), subtract 10,000 points from your score.

The contest ends Sunday, 2/19/12 at 10 PM NA time.  Your user name must be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  Good luck everyone and have fun!

Awesome... I am HORRIBLE at this game.

edit.. which means I'll probably have the highest score here  with the -10000 I'm guessing that someone could get negative scores?

If you have any GBA signage or kiosk I would be interested. Please send me a PM because I'm only here about once a month now but I'm still VERY interested in large system signage or small playable kiosks related to the GBA.

This is so weird! But it explains why the rules in the Leaderboard thread seemed off when I read them earlier.

I think this is going to be pretty cool, and I found it more exciting than racking up points until the timer gets to 0 in every locations.

I suppose it could be possible for someone to get a negative score for this one.

I re-worded the rules a little bit from the Leaderboard Thread to make them less confusing. Basically, you want to get the lowest score possible and get as far in the game as possible.

Is it possible to beat the game on one life and score less than 10,000 points to get a negative score? If not there's going to be a huge first place tie of 0.

maybe it should be highest stage THEN lowest score.  otherwise I'd just let everyone punch me at the start.

edit:   now the rules are more clear..  you just made the game even harder.

That's what I was thinking. Unless it's actually possible to beat the game with a score under 10,000 everybody is just going to die on the first screen for a 0 score.

Yep, that's what it is.  The higher stages take precedence.  If 2 people die on the same stage at the same part, the lower score takes precedence.  If someone were to lose at the start of the game for a score of 0, then they would finish below anyone who scores points or advances to the next screen of stage 1.

Yes sir.  I think this will be a bit of a challenge for me.  I'm used to having almost all of the moves by the start of mission 3, and on my first attempt at a low score, I was just getting the jump kick by the start of that mission.

I'm actually used to trying to beat the game as quickly as possible on one life so this might work out for me pretty well.

I gave this a shot tonight and I really enjoy going for a low score instead. In most beat em ups, and this is no exception, you are given less points for beating enemies the "fun" way so its nice to be rewarded instead of punished for doing that.

One question, are we supposed to be playing Mode A or B? I don't know the difference.

We are playing Mode A. Mode B is the Fighting Mode similar to Street Fighter.

I'll likely end up in last*, again. But here goes.  28,400

Does an FC Mobile 2 count?

Also, a hint for score capturing. When your character is blinking, you still have control. So when you're dead and blinking, quickly press pause. If you miss, just start the game as usual.

*Anything but first place is as good as last to me.

^You have to go through one of the doorways after you defeat the Abobos to get to the pink cave to move on. Otherwise, Stage 3 loops indefinitely. Nearly every stage after the forest loops indefinitely, so you have to take a secret path. The majority of the time, an enemy will come out of the doorway that leads you to the next stage.

I think we should have an Abobo death match in the event a tiebreaker is needed.

Actually did play some of this game last night, got to stage 4, the Ropers right after climbing up from the Abobo, got killed, last life, didn't pause it in time, back to the title screen, @#$%. Had 42,???, but lot of good that does me being as the where you lost (or won) pic has to be taken there to show it for this contest. Will just have to try again.

Wish this one were a one life game, wouldn't run into the problem of possibly missing the score on the stage last achieved then.
