Hey folks. So my buddy is hosting a videogame convention in about a month. There will be various vendors, but there will also be a gaming room setup.  He's looking for ideas for game challenges, that at the end of the day, whoever has the best score, fastest time, etc. wins a prize. I believe he's looking for single player challenges, that are relatively quick. Hes already got:
- 1 life mario bros run (nes) (high score challenge)
- 1 time trial race mario kart (snes) (fastest time)
- pacman 1 life run (high score challenge)

So, what challenges do you think would be cool to see? It can be for any system, retro-current. Any ideas are appreciated! Thanks!

Love the MM challenge. That game beats my ass so bad every time I play but yet I constantly go back for more!

I liked the one from the Color Dreams thread...y'know, beat Secret Scout without swearing. I've done it, but it was pretty damn tough to do, especially when I kept getting raped by the end boss

"It's always amazing to me how some of the most worthless games from a gaming perspective tend to fetch outrageous amounts of money. But then again, it could be said that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I'm curious if the high bidder of the $873.04 Stadium Events (cart-only) realizes that it's nowhere nearly as rare as about 20+ games I can think of that sell for 1/10th that amount?  At any rate, I wanted to draw attention to this trend: if people say it's rare, it must be true, and therefore it must be had at any price."

Tetris Level 19 Type A

Both will end super-fast for 99% of players.

This one would require some set-up ahead of time, but if you are good enough at Legend of Zelda to go swordless, set up all three saves ready to march on Death Mountain... see who can get to Ganon without a sword.

This one can take 45 minutes if they are good and play every level to max their score...

Snail Maze on Sega Master System! Like Marble Madness, it's timed, so it can only take just so long (the maximum is well under 10 minutes).

Another idea: the Monkey Target game in Super Monkey Ball 2. A three-round session is very short, but getting a high score is challenging and involves a fair amount of risk/reward.

on a good day that would take me 45 minutes to die in each of those(25 in battletoads, 15 in SS and about 10 in G&G)  and there's people who will one life them, there needs to be a hard time limit to keep things moving.

Marble Madness would be a good one I'd make the score how many seconds you have left after the Beginner race (second course)
do a round of Punch Out  (probably Piston Honda 2, you don't want EVERYONE but the punch out die hards to fail) again number of seconds left is your points.

and last have a time trial on Mario Kart or F-zero and subtract their time in seconds from 300 for the score.

If you have any GBA signage or kiosk I would be interested. Please send me a PM because I'm only here about once a month now but I'm still VERY interested in large system signage or small playable kiosks related to the GBA.

I think a full game is okay. For an experienced player, beating the game takes 4-5 minutes, and non-experienced would fail earlier which would make a game around 5 minutes as well. Also, taking the seconds left after beginner race would most likely make too much player tied.

Silent Service - Pick a patrol run (everyone agrees on if it's a group going at it) and then set all the features to ON which makes it max difficulty (convoy zigzag, dud torpedos, etc) and then go until you're sunk/blown out of the water, run out of ammo, or get back to base.

Just be sure to read the manual for the controls and use 2 pads so you can use the rear tubes and look around w/out turning the sub.

Pac-Man (any system, any variant) with one person blindfolded and holding the controller, and the other calling out which ways to go. Haven't tried it myself, but I'm sure it'd be both chaotic and fun.
