I was just wondering if anyone was familiar with Mike Etler. Is he (or was he) a part of NintendoAge? Before I came to this site, I was familiar with his rarity list, and many people kinda made their own versions of it. Also, does his list agree with you (Dain and Jason)? Or is it a little out dated in your opinion. BTW, Dain, do you have an Excel list with the rarity of games on it? I know it is on this site in another form, but I am looking for something you can sort by rarity and quickly glance down at. Im afraid the Etler list may be inaccurate. Most of his revisions are several years old.

Basically he rates an an A to E rarity scale, A being the rarest. This includes A-, A and A+. The only A+ rated game is Stadium Events, and the rest as follows:

Arkanoid with Controller Qix Hatris Ms. Pacman Pac Man (Namco version) Donkey Kong Jr Math Stack Up (with all parts) Street Cop Galaxy 5000 Magician Tombs & Treasure Snow Brothers Treasure Master Cowboy Kid Sword Master Sesame Street Countdown Little Sampson Fire & Ice Color A Dinosaur Bubble Bobble 2 Star Trek Next Generation Bonks Adventure Mario Time Machine Jungle Book What do you think so far?

Old aunts used to come up to me at weddings, poking me in the ribs and cackling, telling me, "You're next." They stopped after I started doing the same thing to them at funerals.

As far as I know Etler is still around, I don't think he's a forum guy, though I think he;s been at some NAVA meetings at the DP store(I may be wrong).

Overall, I think his list is pretty good. I disagree with some and I'm sure others do too, but he hasn't updated that list in years, and considering when he made that list there wasn't any other real comprehensive lists, his list is pretty impressive.

His list un is extremely outdated IMO. That was the main reason I made my list to be honest. I was sick of people quoting rairty that was 10 years old. His list was undoubtly amazing when it was made, a impressive task indeed considering how limted the internet was back then. Akaik he doesn't post or visit here at all. I have only seen him on DP a few times, but I rarely if ever visit DP.

Yeah, he created the first NES rarity list, which was huge back then. He used to post frequently on DP.. he still does, but just not as often. He's a nice guy though. He sold me one of the last games I needed to complete my Intellivision collection a few years ago.

I've heard that even he discourages use of his list due to it being so horribly outdated.

BTW, for shits and giggles, here's an EXTREMELY outdated version of the list:

Note the rarity of Stadium Events

-------------------------

"It's always amazing to me how some of the most worthless games from a gaming perspective tend to fetch outrageous amounts of money. But then again, it could be said that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I'm curious if the high bidder of the $873.04 Stadium Events (cart-only) realizes that it's nowhere nearly as rare as about 20+ games I can think of that sell for 1/10th that amount?  At any rate, I wanted to draw attention to this trend: if people say it's rare, it must be true, and therefore it must be had at any price."

^ Man that brings back memories. It's the first list I ever used; I printed it out in 1999 when I started collecting and spent months trying to track down the elusive "Asterix the Gaul". Little did I know, heh heh. We were all noobs at one time I guess.

My mantra, as worded by SamSpade on 06/12/12:
I don't resell to fund my collection, I don't treat this hobby like a second job, I don't care if my collection is worth ten bucks or ten thousand because I never plan on selling it. Seriously, what does the value have to do with anything if you never plan on selling? Speculation doesn't mean jack shit to me at this point, I just want to play my nes games...
