I've never heard of this and WTF is up with the stupid price. Someone should buy one and make an NA repro at a decent price. $200+ for a repro of 1,500. They'll be lucky to even sell 200 lol

Wow, I'm glad my link to that commercial led to this amazing discovery. Thank you for the article and revealing some more information about that game.

I just read the article. It says they used development kits from Sculptured Software for training. Earlier, Kevin Horton proved that Action 52 used Sculptured Software's music engine (NES Monopoly, Day Dreamin' Davey and Action 52 all have the exact same music engine!), so did Sculptured Software just give out their music engine, or was the music code taken without permission?

And how did Ed Bogas's example music from "The Music Studio" get in there, was it just stolen and thrown in the game?

Thanks for the kind words about the article!

As for the mysterious CheetahmenGames website. It seems to be operated by Greg Pabich, who received the earliest known prototype of Action 52 from Vince Perri. On that prototype, Action Gamemaster/Cheetahmen, is a completely different game, called Action Gamer, which I believe "Cheetahmen: The Creation" is.

As for Ed Boga's The Music Studio, that info I haven't been able to find as of yet. Mario claimed that he composed all of his music originally, and left before he saw any actual stolen music. Mario may know about the Sculptured Software question, so feel free to send him a message on his Youtube channel (Zentanith).

Also, Mario plans on making a video documenting his story, so to those interested in the article, it may be a good idea to subscribe to his channel!

Yeah, this was one of the most interesting interviews i've read in awhile. I love hearing the inside stories behind some of the more obscure games. Thanks for taking the time time to put this together.

That link with the Cheetahmen game for $200 looks very interesting. I sure hope they aren't planning on selling said CIB for 200 a piece, 60 ish would be more like it!

First off, Adam, fantastic article with Mario on the creation of the Action 52!  I think the 3 month deadline explains why so many of the games were essentially horrible shooter clones of one another.

In case you're wondering about the cheetahmengames.com website and the guy behind it, I just interviewed Greg Pabich on it.  He has a pretty interesting back story, so it turned out to be a pretty fascinating interview.  Feel free to check out my article:

Once Vince decided that he wanted the three of us working on Action52, we signed contracts and then we were sent to Salt Lake City, Utah for some training on Nintendo development equipment. This equipment was basically development software running on IBM clones that came with a flash ROM cartridge we would use to download the games for testing. I do not remember the name of the company in Utah, but I do remember that they were working on the Empire Strikes Back for the NES, so somebody may be able to figure out what company this was.

Sculptured Software is based in Salt Lake City and worked on Empire Strikes Back, so I think this can be confirmed by Mario's own words, that Sculptured gave it to them.
