I don't know how you all can get so many points. My finger hurts from pushing the fire button so much. Anyways I might give this one more try. But with all these high scores it has kinda scared me away.

You just have to learn how to "tap" the controller in your hand. I have picked up a Thor like technique that saves my fingers a little. Hold tight with left hand, loose with right.
Then again, it is all about how comfortable you are with the controller.

Oh, and I think you are going to see some REAL high scores come out Sunday afternoon.
The best is yet to post, I am sure of it.

Will be fun to see. 2.8 is a smokin score. 2.65 was the record for 8 years.

Just about any no death run is highly impressive.

Also its forced progression, so you can't spam points anywhere legally. So there is a definite limit, I am just curious what is humanly possible.

Will be fun to see if Mog or Guil can top it, maybe even tall guy? Maybe someone else lurking in the shadows? Will be fun to watch

For shooters I use my left index finger for B and my middle for A. If im playing on my saturn I use my ring finger for C.

This way I have faster reaction to use say a Bomb or change weapons. Meanwhile it saves my thumb and i can mash faster with my index finger if required.

Though 1943 doesn't really require this style of play, I still find it the most effective way to play these types of games.

Also thanks all for the kind words about my score

Finally figured out Mission 11. Thanks JD for motivating me to work on this. It's been forever since I played this game!

Playing on an emulator for a while, as I'm in the process of moving.  Not my favoritte way to play, but it's not so bad I guess.

No score yet, as I've been focusing on getting this little bounty. Will play for points this weekend probably.

Good luck to everyone. Nice scores so far!

By the way, I've never played this game on the NES before this week.
Just at the arcade, which must have last been around 1989 or so?
It seems like I remember the arcade one being easier, but I'm probably just old.

there are alot of difference with the Arcade, for one, you don't choose your upgrades, it force feeds you the weapons you can have, and other real important stuff.

There are only 16 levels in the arcade, where, on level 16 in this game well....I won't ruin it for you but you will find out if you are able to pass that level.

I'm not sure I would call the arcade easy, both games are equally tough, IMO

I find the arcade version harder personally. But I have played less of it then the NES port. It is much faster paced in comparison i believe

Thanks a bunch for the prizes proposition JD, that is a great idea and very generous of your part.

I had never played this game before yesterday, and I never knew that it was that similar to 1942. I don't know if I'll be able to play enough to be up to the competition, but I'll surely give it a try tonight.

Well, it's the sequel to 1942. But a bit more "Polished" to say the least. Alot more depth to the game also. and MUSIC! lol

I can't get into 1942 it's a bare bones basic arcade port, but 1943 would get my vote as favorite nes shooter. If you throw famicom games into the mix id would still be top 3 with crisis force and recca. It is definitely a must play.

I want to say thanks again to JD for putting up these generous bounties

Indeed, 1943 is like a luxurious version of 1942. For obscure reasons, I always thought that 1943 was a lot different than 1942. I probably mistaken it with another plane shooter game I played when I was young.

On a more serious note, I've played EarthBound today for so long, I feel all tense and mentally worn out.

That's it for me this week - I'm gone all weekend but I'm not sure I could have got much farther. I couldn't beat the boss on Level 3. I like shmups but my reflexes just aren't good enough to do very well yet.

If anyone is curious how they stand going in to the last day, updated the list above. So current up to now, unless I missed something.

Killer scores so far, and thanks again to Bimmy for taking the time to set these competitions up! I know I usually just spectate, and rarely do I compete, but I really enjoy watching!

Thank you; I practiced all week and finally gave it a go. I may try again before the contest ends, but I don't think I'm going to top my last one! My first contest in awhile.  Here is my final attempt: 1, 466, 600
My fingers are pretty sore;
