Changing NES LED light?

What do I have to worry about when changing the nes led light.  Is there a certain voltage that I have to be aware of.  I really dont know what I am doing but my roommate does.  What do you guys know about it?

I wouldn't imagine you have to worry about much, as long as it isn't plugged in.

I don't think it holds charge like a television or monitor does.

I just mean I dont want to put the led in and then turn it on and fry the light. Its a pretty wicked one I got outa this pen. It changes colors.

I tried this with a spare LED I had laying around but it didn't work, must not have been the right voltage...

Maybe you put it the wrong way
I think the NES led is 5v but I'm not 100% sure.
