Looks like I'm the first... Kickle Cubicle

Not a bad game, pretty slow at first but some of the later puzzles require some decent thinking. The final boss battle is actually fairly entertaining until you figure out his patterns and then it's pretty simple. Solid 3-4 hour game depending on how good your logic skills are.

No way, I beat the first one in the "Special Game" and then went to GameFAQs to see how many rounds there were.  There's 30!!!  That essentially doubles the length of the game and I'm not going all that extra way.  If I want to beat 50-100 titles this year I'm not going to have time to thoroughly destroy each game.  Plus it wasn't really that much fun to me...

Blasted my way through Mega Man II on difficult mode. Played some Goal! and RC Pro Am this afternoon...those titles may take a bit.

The guy isn't even that bad compared to the levels themselves.  The catch is that you get to play the levels a million times so of course you'll almost reach perfection simply because you've played it so much.

With the boss, you get your little 2 minutes battle and then you won't see him again for awhile.  It's hard to get a rhythm down because of this.  If I played him on emulator for a good 30 minutes or so with save states then I'm sure I could pop in the NES and beat him quick.

Just bothers me because I've NEVER had to give up on a game before.  It just wasn't fun anymore and I'd rather play something else now.

Beat my first of 2009: Ninja Crusaders

Photobucket

Decent platfomer by the folks over at Sammy. A bit unforgiving at times with its one hit and you're out gameplay, I had fun with it. The various weapons are pretty cool, I liked the animal forms, and beyond the water physics the mechanics were more than adequate.

I just beat my first this morning: Totally Rad.

Should be called "Totally Frustrating" . It was the first time a played it -- for such a cheesy title, it's a actually a pretty cool game. Got some Megaman-like elements.

The last two bosses are freakin hard. I beat the last guy down to my last 2 life bars on my last life.

Number 2 off my list, The Flintstones: The Rescue of Dino and Hoppy:

Photobucket

I'm often surprised at how difficult some of these kids games can be. A majority of the game is simple enough, but there were a few boss battles that were slightly challenging. I definitely think this game is much better than the second, having Gazoo's little aides was definitely a plus.

So I tried to beat Rampart and quit after 2 hours or so. Pretty annoying. Then I pick up Ninja Gaiden and little did I know what I was in store for.

I breeze all the way through the first 5 acts and tell my GF to come over because I thought I was almost done now. I get to act 6-2 and quite an unpleasant surprise when the difficulty goes from challenging to over-the-top "break your controller" absurdity. After dying way too many times I finally leave the game paused and go out to a party for the night.

So I wake up around 11:00 this morning and unpause the game determined to beat it. I finally clear 6-2 thinking thank god that is behind me. Make it to get the boss and die. Guess what? BACK TO STAGE 6-1 EVEN THOUGH I HAD LIVES LEFT. Seriously, what kind of shit is that? So I play some more and finally get back to the boss. This time I beat him, only to get raped by his second form. BACK TO 6-1 AGAIN!!

So this continues for awhile and I actually become quite good at 6-1 through 6-4. I was able to go from 6-1 back to the boss in about 15-20 minutes (on my best runs, usually about 25-30 mins) and I did this about 7 or 8 times until I finally quit. It's so stupid, I know I could beat the boss with some practice and patience, but I'm not going to spend a half hour of my time just to get back to him.

So Ninja Gaiden goes down with an asterisk for me. I beat everything the game had to offer except the second form of the last boss and I have much better things to do instead of spending 30 minutes trying to get back to him everytime I die. If I was a kid I'd sit in front of the TV until he was dead but I got things to do and I'm not leaving the system on all day paused.

So thats 2 titles, Kickle Cubicle and Ninja Gaiden*. 48 more to go until I reach my goal.

(PS - I might go back and try to beat this game again someday if I get a camcorder so I can record Stage 6-2. I actually got really good at it from playing it so much and can almost beat it undamaged... maybe even could if I was patient enough.)

How does that count, I mean, as a game beaten anyway?

Almost is good, and I'm sure you're busy, but you didn't actually finish the game.

Well if you want me to download it on emulator and then use a save state right before the boss just so I can beat the game then I'll do that.  This isn't an official contest with any types of prizes and this is just for people to count their own progress.  You know the feeling when you complete a game and you put it back on the shelf knowing you'll never play it again (or at least anytime soon?)  That's how I feel with Ninja Gaiden and it feels "beaten" to me as I no longer had any desire to play it.

It's beaten with an asterisk for my personal count.  If you don't like that then guess what?  I don't care.

It's nothing to me one way or the other, it just seems like if you're posting in a thread about the games you've beaten in 2009 you might actually... beat them.

I'm glad you played through Ninja Gaiden though, it's one of the best for the system, and I'd highly recommend the sequels if you enjoyed the first.

Bah Ninja Gaiden isn't really that hard. It just takes some practice. Of course, I do kind of agree that you can't really say that you beat a game unless you actually beat it. And I don't think save states count either!

Okay guys that's fine, I didn't beat Ninja Gaiden. Now let's stop cluttering up this thread with useless banter and get back on topic. I want to see some more beats people!

Note: I personally guarantee that I'll "beat" NG sometime this year just to shut up everyone. And pics will be posted when I do.

Extra Note: If I get a camcorder I'll try to do a no damage run on 6-2 also.

Oh hilarity.

I beat Mega Man 2 with my girlfriend the other night. She only really played super nintendo as a kid so she wanted to play some stuff on NES. So we sat down with a couple of games and we had a lot of fun with it. As someone who's probably beaten the game 20 times, it was very interesting to see what it was like for someone who's never played. She said she really liked it because she could play for a while and then instead of getting frustrated just hand me the controller and we could move on.

After failing to beat Golgo-13 on the last stage (very frustrating) I popped in a new pick up. Felix the Cat. I remember beating it as a kid when we rented it, but I wasnt sure if I could count it because there's a good chance I used game genie back then. But after popping that bad boy in I realized just how easy it was. A whole lot of fun, but really really easy.

Good times.

2 for the list;
Just did a no death Contra run yesterday, and beat Super C eariler today. I used to think that Super C was much harder then contra, but now after playing both rigorously I'd say Super C is probably just as easy, if not easier to do a no-death run then contra. If I ever get a camera I'll do vids of both. I should be able to no-death Super C within the next few days. Levels 1-6 I usually dont die on, but find myself making stupid mistakes come 7 & 8.
