I got my copy of the new game SCORE!

-------------------------

"It's always amazing to me how some of the most worthless games from a gaming perspective tend to fetch outrageous amounts of money. But then again, it could be said that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I'm curious if the high bidder of the $873.04 Stadium Events (cart-only) realizes that it's nowhere nearly as rare as about 20+ games I can think of that sell for 1/10th that amount?  At any rate, I wanted to draw attention to this trend: if people say it's rare, it must be true, and therefore it must be had at any price."

Lol, so that's why bunnyboy was so interested in my copy of Airball.

And please don't remind me I still need bacl Raid 2020, Baby Boomer and Metal Fighter.

I'm going to be annoyed when Airball is sold out because I can't order due to the work filters here.

Yeah, nice read, indeed. That Stadium Events NTSC vs. PAL bit really is something to watch for, for those of you a little newer to NES collecting. Oh, and I ordered my Airball shortly after this thread was posted early this morning .

Those are estimates, but I would think if we asked how many here actually owned either, we'd be lucky to have 3-4 of each. I still need a black Crystal Mines, and I've been looking for 2 years straight. In that time, I've seen 2, and I was outbid on both.

I spent at least six months to a year just searching color dreams auction for variants I didn't have before I came across black Crystal Mines. As far as I can tell, it was the only one anyone knew of at the time. This was about 3 years ago and back then there was next to no interest in CD variants. I think I remember on my flight out to SJ for CGE in 2004 I added the variants I had found to someone's list... might have been Dain's? I dunno.

I didn't even see Baby Boomer, Metal Fighter or Raid 2020 during my hunting time. I had no idea they existed. I'm sure I will be dropping $100+ on each one of these next time they appear.

More than $100 portnoyd, prob upwards off 200-250 for Raid 2020 or Metal Fighter. Crystal Mines is a bitch and took me forever to find. Michiganfan sniped me on 2 of them a long time ago, I nealry cried. So glad to have this whole subset out of the way.

No offense, but I really think you guys are just boosting prices for the sake of boosting prices.

I don't care if they sell for 1000 or 10 bucks since I have one But the reality is that with only a few being known to exist and variants starting to take a larger role in the hobby they will continue to go up. Anything that is rare lately has been going to stupid amounts. I wish prices would come down, but that isn't going to happen

I have most of them too, but I do care. It really seems like people are just tossing cash haphazardly at any game identified as OMFG rare here. There is no discretion on anyone's part. No one's thinking that 'Maybe that is a little too much to pay for that title'. I agree, CD variants are in slim supply, but the demand cannot be as great to command a price tag equal to a no-variant title that someone would need to complete the US set.

Your totally right port. Same thing happened with Atari for a while then the market dropped a ton and prices came down. But the rare stuff will prob never go do in price to much, especially for CIB stuff. Fun to watch the trends though

Great job fellas!!

Excellent work - starting to come together and look *professional*.

Graphics rock so does the new layout!!

Bunny -
Loved your article! It was really interesting to find out how this game's history unfolded and how eventually it reappeared in your home-brewed form. I got a copy or two of your game and didn't even know it was the small box form - I'm pleasantly surprised!!!! Can't wait to see what you pump out next!

Bronty -
I really enjoyed your article! You raised some interesting points on the future of NES collecting and that graph looked cool!!!

Overall, boys, the issues keep getting better! If this issue is any indication of the future of the 'magazine' then we are all in for a treat!!

Thanks for all your work -

MLN

Wasn't that black Crystal Mines that you got Jason the one I passed on and posted at nesforums because I was going after random ntsc commons at the time?

/kicks self, $10 bin I still remember, was trying to be nice because I figured I'd just get one the same way later on, was concentrating on tracking down a cheap King's Quest V or something cheesy hehe.
