This game is tough.

I almost get nauseous playing on my big projector screen. Although I was playing on it for this score it seemed easier to play on my lil 10" tv in the bedroom.

I also feel like I do better if I don't look directly at my car. If I try to focus on what's ahead I tend to do better.

These could both be placebo effect.

I wanted to share a story about my fond memories of RC Pro Am. Looking back at when this was released it must have been in the spring of 88. i was probably in 6th or 7th grade. I had a deluxe set i had gotten for christmas a year or 2 earlier. Growing up there wasnt alot of disposable income in my home. my mom worked hard to provide for me and my sister but christmas time was always good for a couple of new games, but during the year to ask for a new game was something that would never happen. I remember wanting this game alot, not sure if i saw it in nintendo power or on tv but i decided to ask my mom if we could go get this game that i really wanted. looking back now it must have been tax time because to my surprise my mom agreed and took me to get this cart. I have always had a copy of rc pro am in my collection ever since. played this game for hours on end back in the day and ironicly I got about as far then as i did now. but i always liked this game alot. I never had a problem with the isometric view it just came naturally to steer the car in the right direction but i always liked to play with rc cars back in the day. watching people pick up this game and drive into the wall was always funny to me. Just wanted to share a good childhood memory of playing this game.

Although I've been railing on this game a bit,I do actually like it....it's just so frustrating and unforgiving at times. And cheap.

Also, anyone else notice that the other cars seem to hit the speed strips most of the time? And if they don't and you do,all of a sudden they do too.

Great story!!! Most of the time I would only get games at Christmas as well.

It reminds me of the time I had saved up my allowance, I had around $50-$69 dollars. My parents took me to K-mart and I had Mike Tysons punch out in my hands when I spoted an R/C car (Days of Thunder) lol ironically we are playing R/C pro am this week, anyway I ended up putting the punch out back and going with the car. I ran the wheels off of that thing. My dad was happy because he never liked me playing Nintendo as I would spend hours on end inside playing SMB3 Hahaa. Maybe some of you can relate "go outside that things rotting your brain!!" Lol I can still hear him.

Guts your quote made me realize I was bagging DK pretty hard a couple weeks ago. I didn't mean to offend and it's not that I don't like the game ( I love all NES games.. Even JAWS lol) it's just that I like joking and making fun even if I do like whatever it is im joking on.

I agree it's a tough game and the arrows are ridiculous

Wow Santa, I guess you "sleigh-ed" my score! That's amazing! I guess I'll have to see if I can shoot for 2nd this week because there's no way I'm catching that. Is that a personal best for you or have you gotten even higher?

I've scored over 500k a handful of times, but the margin for error is so small after Level 32 that even if you're crushing the scoreboard... 1 mistake ends it all.

When I was younger I didn't have very many games... RC PRO-AM was one I did have though.
I always wanted to see what would happen if you filled the entire trophy room up with trophies - then got 1 more.
Although I've gotten the entire screen nearly full... I've never been able to do it.

RC Pro Am was one of the first 5 or so games that I got as a kid so I spent a lot of time with it back then as well. Like you said, there's such a small margin for error after race 32 that my runs usually end shortly after.

Level 19 is ridiculous. Oil slick level 9000.

19 definitely separates the men from the boys.

(but then getting through the entire first loop as a pacifist and well into the 30's, like Santa and Caleb, appears to be what separates the demigods from the men )

The one I hate is 18 or 19, the 2 lap race on the short track with slippery condition,  where the hell does the oil come from? They are rc cars, they run on batteries

Before high discharge LiPo batteries came on the scene, SERIOUS RC cars used to run on nitromethane.

A nitro powered RC car can hit 100 mph... you weren't doing that with NiCad batteries in the 80's

And those engines burn 12-20% OIL

I used to go to serious rc races with a guy I knew and some of the top end battery cars could get between 60 and 70 if I remember right,  I also saw the ones that run on fuel and sound like go carts, they go quick

Meh... played more of this last night and really dislike it. Not fun at all, just frustrating.

Got about 25k and realized my camera's memory card was locked so I didn't get a pic of the high score table before it went away. I'll just do another run tonight for the participation point and wait for next weeks game.

Awesome job Santa, I hope you over flow that trophy room some day! I think you might be the new NA RC PRO AM king. I remember Luke being #1 last time, maybe he'll post a score this week and give you a run for your money.

Look at these crazy ass scores from Jan/Feb1989! I wonder if these were pre Game Genie?

Those scores are insane! According to a quick Google search, the Game Genie wasn't released until 1990 so those scores would have been from at least a year earlier.

I was always suspicious of these scores as many of them just seemed too good to believe and it's not like Nintendo Power was uber policing them anyway.

I remember checking for scores when we played Double Dragon 2 during the finals and there was at least one submission of 999,999 to NP. Those little shit head cheaters! LOL

Lol. I remember seeing the Mega Man max out score and wondered if they beat the game several times or just grinded away like crazy on a level.

Also surprised I don't see Tom's name on every entry.

Even though they might not be as practical I will always run nitro over battery.

It's the sound and you have to break in and tune the nitro motor.

With the battery you just plug it in. You can swap gears with both.

As far as speed I believe that the battery powered cars are much faster. Especially when it comes to initial torque. There is no way a nitro powered car will ever keep up with a battery powered car off the line as the battery is instant power. The nitro motor has to start turning revolutions before it can send power to the wheels. Even top end I'm pretty sure battery smokes nitro.

Still nitro is my choice just because it adds more to the hobby in my opinion.

GREAT SCORE SANTA

Current LiPoly driven cars are definitely WAY faster, since electric motors have improved AND that type of battery can give you way higher power at lower weights.

I'm talking about back in the 80's, though when this game came out.

I would expect a nitro motor driven car to clobber a NiCad or NiMH based car, just based on the power-to-weight issues, if nothing else.

I just saw that and it has awoken me from my slumber! I told my wife that I will be trying to break my personal best this week (track 62) and her response, verbatim was "not again."

I personally use bombs in the late game almost exclusively, minus a couple tracks. One you hit level 49 (when the difficulty maxes out) bombs are pretty much required as once a car is past you, it's gone forever. You aren't hitting them with missiles.
