Hey everyone. For the month of October, we're going to play some horror themed games to get in the spirit of Halloween. To kick things off, this week's game is gonna be a classic, Castlevania. Here are the rules:
The contest ends Sunday, 10/9/11 at 10 PM NA time. Your user name must be in the picture for your score to be valid. The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid. No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted. Good luck everyone and have fun!
My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)
Latest Purchase(s): Snow Brothers

I think this is the furthest I've made it on one life. Going to have to keep practicing.
Been a while since I participated, but when I saw this one, I just had to play! My favorite NES game of all time. Only had to play it once so far to achieve a no death victory, pretty good considering I hadn't played this one for some time and on emulator with a not as good as an NES controller at that. If I continue to try this one I should be able to get what I had last time this game was in the contest, somewhere around 6-7 hundred thousand by the end. Yes, I point racked, but game does have a timer, so can only stick around boomeranging medusa heads and firebombing red skeletons so long before you have to rush ahead (yes, those were hints to big points).
Score upon beating game without dying 495,810
See latest post for a higher score.

Actually, looking back at my old scores, I did indeed roll the score on the 1st quest. Also, want to learn some point racking techniques, check out one of my posts from the old Castlevania high score topic from several years ago. Sadly only a few people competed in this game that year.

This is one of those very few games that I do know how to get big scores in, right there with Bubble Bobble.
Oh, and do beware, if you do happen to pass my current score and get near maxing it out, score rolls over, so as you get close to all 9's, start pausing and taking pics (just in case you might miss it) until you got it as high as it will go before starting anew at all zeros.
Okay, a few more tries, was so close to nearly rolling the score, ran out of hearts when firebombing red skeletons. And the timer was starting to tick. dammit. Then ran out of time in a desperate attempt to at least get to the Grim Reaper so that I at least die by something worthy. Guess I'll have to be better prepared next time. Anyway, for the time being, you all got something to shoot for. For me, time for bed.
Score upon 1st death 970,330
Once again see later post for even better score.
