Just got in this flintstones box. Glad to finally get it to go with my cart and manual. It is in very good condition with the exception of were a sticker has been removed from the top and there is a piece of tape across the top.

Anyone have any suggestions for removing these?

All I can suggest is to be very careful removing the tape. Scotch tape can come off easy, or it could tear the shit out of it. I usually just leave it on, but with a higher-end item like that, it may be worth the risk. Even if it leaves a bit of damage in it's wake, I don't think such a minor injury would decrease the box's value at all.

"It's always amazing to me how some of the most worthless games from a gaming perspective tend to fetch outrageous amounts of money. But then again, it could be said that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I'm curious if the high bidder of the $873.04 Stadium Events (cart-only) realizes that it's nowhere nearly as rare as about 20+ games I can think of that sell for 1/10th that amount?  At any rate, I wanted to draw attention to this trend: if people say it's rare, it must be true, and therefore it must be had at any price."

Personally, I wouldn't attempt it on this box. It really won't affect the value much, so your best bet would be to leave it alone. Collectors know that this stuff is going to be on some boxes and on a rare one like this, it's permissible IMO.

leave it alone. cut the excess tape off and leave it at that. If you've ever collected old comics you'll know the best way to kill the value of something is with a home repair. If it ever becomes valuable someone will come up with a way of taking that off. You can always remove tape later but once the box is torn, its torn.

I'd take bronty's advice and cut the excess off and leave the rest. It really isn't all that noticable and the value of it isn't going to change because of it I'm sure. Nice pick up though

Nistle strikes again! Very nice pickup, although I'm curious as to how it faded in such a peculiar way, ie: why does the fading stop half way down the pterodactyl's beak and legs, and why does the "TST" in the middle of "Flinstones" look less faded than the all the letters around it?

I swear, this has got to be the #1 most difficult box in the entire NES library to find without fading, almost like an unfaded box is the exception rather than the rule.

I don't resell to fund my collection, I don't treat this hobby like a second job, I don't care if my collection is worth ten bucks or ten thousand because I never plan on selling it. Seriously, what does the value have to do with anything if you never plan on selling? Speculation doesn't mean jack shit to me at this point, I just want to play my nes games...

technically it does have some fading, the flintstones letters ARE actually supposed to be the color of the pterodactyl's beak. Trust me i tried to force myself to believe mine didnt have fading, but it does some. lol In fact i dont think i have ever seen one that didnt, Except i know morbis i think is supposed to have a non faded one.

My guess on yours nistle would be that it probably sat behind another complete game at the rental store, and the game in front of it was slouched. So only the top of the box was exposed. to the sun, while the bottom wasnt. Or something similar like that?

Either way you can almost consider that box MINT compared to the exceptions for this game. (rental only) and stuff. Very nice pick up and congrats. You keep this up and were gonna have to change your name to NationalNistleDepot hehe :-) lol

I assure you I do have a box with no fading at all. Looks different than the picture posted, but a picture can only tell so much. Colors on my box are very nice. I have to agree this box is ridiculously prone to fading (as is bubble bobble 2). Kind of odd its the "rental only" games (although they did have some sort of later release) seem to fade quite a bit.

^No, and the box scan here on NA isn't faded, fortunately, so you can use that to draw your comparison. The beak and legs on your box aren't even one solid color for starters. You could draw a horizontal line across your box to mark the exact spot where the fading begins if you wanted to - it's that obvious. Just check out the scan here and see for yourself how richly colored the box is supposed to be. It's still an excellent pickup though.

I save auctions once in a while and saved the one you are talking about.  It went for 430$ + 6$ shipping, here's the link as it's still up on ebay.  Your box looks to be in better shape, good luck on selling it!

WOW! That's all I have to say about that auction link above. Who is Mikeman2005 and why did he pay $430 for such a horribly faded box and no manual? Normally I'd chalk it up to Noobness, but he's got a feedback rating of 662.

The price for this game seems to be rising real quick. I can't believe that one just sold for over $150 on ebay. I thought I overpaid for my copy when I hit the BIN at $123.
