Eh, I thought this stuff was down and dirty like it used to be. Back when they just had a medic on staff to keep you from killing the opponent.

I don't think that just because someone is combat trained that they will win a fight. But I do know that a trained fighter is only made tougher in those situations. At the end of the day, all else equal, the fight goes to the guy that "wants it the most".

In a situation like what MMA currently is, somebody who has NEVER had lethal training probably has an advantage since they don't have to inhibit their reflexes.

They don't do Krav Maga anymore, I don't think. The Marines learned that in a real situation that required lethal force, their guys reverted to street fighting since it was less complicated than the fighting style they were trying to train with.

Shags, if I don't have more, I'm damn near close. Nice collection man! Sometimes its cool to go over the low level events (King of the Cage, etc.) from years ago to see guys before they got big in Pride or the UFC.

I've got almost every Pride DVD released, barring a few of the ones that Zuffa put out in the last few months, but my UFC DVD collection is pretty tiny. I do a lot of picking and choosing when it comes to UFC. I've got a lot of the old Vale Tudo events as well. I love some old school Wanderlei Silva.

Sad to see Couture go out like that. Kenny Florian looks like the real deal. Him vs Penn should be a great fight.

I didn't watch it but the result was what I expected. Couture is just too old, period point blank

I actually thought Couture looked alright despite the loss. I DO think it's time for him to bow out though. LHW is too stacked right now for him to drop down again, and I can't see another fight with Lesnar going any differently. You just can't give up 40-60 pounds to a guy and expect to win.

Main event aside, this was one of the best PPVs in a long time. Every fight was good and there was a great mix of action. Well worth taking a night off of work.

I was reading a blog today on the fight and they were saying that if Liddel has a good showing in his next fight that there may be a final Liddel-Couture rematch. Boy I hope not.

I watched Lesnar almost die from doing a shooting star press at WrestleMania in Seattle a few years back. Should be a good fight.

^^^ The fight was last night, so you could play some sort of weird time travel game with yourself, pretend you went into the future and then watch the fight on MMAlinker. It would be crazy.

It kind of makes you wonder how many guys in the WWE, TNA, or any of the other wrestling orgs. could really make it big in MMA. I am sure there are several out there. It probably depends on what their real background is in. Lesner had a true wrestling background, while many of the current WWE, TNA folks probably grew up going to "wrestling school" which I would think would not prepare you at all for MMA.

Yeah check out Bam Bam Bigalo, or Nobuhiko Takada.

Sucks I missed this thread, but id like to respond to some things.

First ill say.. I had Couture picked to win the fight, and I do have alot of respect for the man. Honestly tho, I never thought he was that great. The man was 16-8, now 16-9. The man looses once every three fights. He couldnt hold his own in the LHW division, it was only a matter of time before the UFC started getting a decent HW division. He was on his way out the HW door as soon as a Fedor or Nog fight was signed. Lesner on the other hand, has shown some incredible things, for his build, he has lightening punches, and those punches have some serious power behind them. He also has the most important strenght in mma.. the ability to take the fight where ever he wants to. The only reason I didnt pick him was because there simply isnt enough tape on the man. I havent really gotten to see his weaknesses, the only hole ive seen in his game, was a simple newbie mistake, when he got caught by Frank. Im sure he patched that up tho very quickly. I feel bad for Nog tho. He was the UFC heavyweight champion, and he hasnt lost his belt, but now he has to win a fight just to get a shot at the belt against a fighter with 4 matches to his name. Its ok though, Nog is gonna walk through Mir, and Lesner. He'll be able to breath easy untill UFC gets back Barnett and Arlovski, and Finally signs Fedor.

Free style vs Greco. Im sure I could dig up plenty of big names from a freestyle background, but its doesnt really matter. If your pitting Greco against freestlye, testing who is going to have an advantage wrestling wise, id have to take the free style guy. Its like a Thai fighter vs a boxer. The thai fighter just has more tools. Same with free style, he just has so many more options to pick you apart with. MMA in general I can see where Greco gives you some nice stuff to work with, like nasty punches and elbows in the clinch, but in determining who controlls where the fight goes, its free style.

Marines in fighting. Even back in the day in small organizations, with no rules, everything goes blood sport style mma, I still saw Marines getting their asses handed to them by nobodies. The marines will make you tough as nails, but being tough as nails doesnt stop you from getting knocked out, getting your limbs broken, getting choked out, and just plain getting pummled and dominated. Ill give it to them, they are tough SOBs, I saw one get turned into a bloody pulp in round one. He continued getting beaten down till the decision at the end of the fight. Marines in general are not a better fighter than anyone else though. Its not the fight school you go through, its who you are personally. There are hundres of fighters that go to the same schools as the champions, but they never make it.

Is anyone here a memeber of mmaplayground? Its a pretty cool site with a forum, and it allows you to make picks for all the big mma orgs, and make virtual bets.. Was just looking at UFC 92, omg that is stacked. Im glad to see Mir is the underdog already, that dudes head is just too big.. cmon your not that good, if you gotta pull out all the stops and bring every last thing you have inside your soul to defeat Wes Sims.

My picks will be:

*Nog / Mir - Cake walk

*Kongo / Al-Turk - Kongo is a beast.

Rampage / *Silva - What a fight.. Silva murdered him twice, but rampage is one of my favs and an incredible fighter.. eh still I gotta go with Silva. BTW when is the circle between Rampage Ice Man and Silva gonna be figured out?

*Griffin / Evans - Evans is a great fighter, but I just dont think he has tha magic that can make a champion, that and Forrests chin aint buckling.

The rest are pretty easy to call, so I didnt list them.. except Okami Lister.. thats a coin flip.

UFC is pretty unwatchable the whole sport is boring and fights last like 8 seconds.

Really boring and the fighters are douchebags anyway.

How could it be boring and last only 8 seconds? You must have the shortest attention span on record, if you can get bored in 8 seconds.

You arent by any chance a boxing elitist are you?

^^^ Personally, I loved the Mike Tyson fights that end in under a minute. Quick knockouts are incredible to watch.
