But to expand, a dank collector would have no problem spending big money on a mint zelda game and then critize someone who dropped that same coin on say an NES testing unit. Because those testing unitd arent dank. Idk, not that Im saying I put any thought to this or that Im not a hypocrit, I just thought I'd point it out so that next time a long time collector comes out of the woodwork the dank collectors can see their own ignorance to the hobby.

OK, that I understand and agree with.

Isn't everyone a "dank" collector at heart? If you had to sell off your collection, which would be the last games you sell? Probably Marios, Zeldas or some of your other favorite franchises.

Dank collecting is normal, completionists are not.

I think one of the issues is "non dank" collectors being criticized because they don't play every game they collect. This is even more true for sealed collectors. There are plenty of people on these forums that make bold statements like "if you collect games without intending on playing them, you are ruining the hobby." I find this ridiculous, and always argue against them, even posting long threads defending sealed collectors although I don't personally own a single sealed NIntendo game. The elitist attitude that you aren't worthy of collecting unless you are doing so to play every game you collect is ridiculous. One of my first collecting goals was to get a CIB set of Bunch Games and Color Dreams games. Why? Because I wanted them, and I can spend my money however I want despite being labeled as not a "real gamer" by other members of these forums.

Do you have hate in your blood for those who collect things, or have collections, other than that -- a shelf full of favs?

The thing is with gaming, as others have pointed out, the flash carts eliminate the need to collect dank games just to play them (to a degree). Gamers are usually the ones who dgaf about emulation on PCs or other devices because they want the juice.

While I agree, dank collectors are a nature part of the collector life cycle. And the last games I would sell would be my homebrews. Thats because I can get my Mario's and Zelda's back at any time. I sell them often actually because they're the games that come with every Nintendo lot I ever bought in the wild. If I'd sell my Beat 'Em LE, how easily would it be for me to obtain that again? It would probably be a lot like me playing Beat Em - very hard.

This. I agree 100% Collecting is about more than gaming. If I wanted to play games, I'd DL them for free on the internet or pay for them from Nintendo.

I love this thread because I love when words are strung together in humorous fashion.

I guess I'm a dank collector. A retro-gamer/enthusiast/collector hybrid of sorts. My NES collection is 70 carts strong and, lo and behold, contain only a few fillers I was given by my girlfriend's grandmother. No sense in getting rid of them for $2-$3 a pop so they're staying. I'm only buying games I actually want to play and re-sell those I do not. For example, I love Demon Sword so I keep it, my Ninja Gaiden 1,2 & 3 only gathered dust so I sold them.

BUT I would never throw crazy money at a game just to claim I have it mint. I bought a $10 Zelda 2 just last week, it is in horrible shape, but it still saves. I love Zelda 2. One of my top 5 favorite NES games altogether. But I wouldn't drop $30-40 to have it mint in box.

I'll probably own 100-150 NES carts when I move on to the next console I wanna hoard for.

Not at all. People collect what they collect. I think it's cool people collect full sets, or sealed games, or games based on rarity. But for me, personally, I only want to collect games I'll play. That's just me though.

That is fairly clear.

Where are these mythical "dank collectors" that are mocking people buying test units? As far as I can tell,  you've made up a strawman collector. The only person in this thread critizing how others collect is you. I'd put down the mary jane, sober up, and maybe you'll realize this entire thread is a train wreck. Stop caring how others collect.

This.  Before collecting became mainstream, I was a member on Digital Press.  I remember buying their collector's guide and being excited that it included NES, finally for the first time.  That style collector is long gone though, a lot of the collecting dynamic has changed between the early 2000s and now (and imo has changed for the worst, but that is debatable).

I think price is now indeed the factor that makes collectors look for excuses to cut items off of the "full set" list, and thus more and more people are just changing the collecting style.

I only collect good games (popular or not) because I don't like the smell of shit all over my book shelves. I'm not sure what that classifies me as, but I have over 3000 CIB games, so I *think* i'm a collector, maybe.

I made the mistake once of talking some shit. Fortunately I'm not a bro and I was able to be helped by people to see how I was wrong.

But I'm also into the weird stuff. Sure as hell don't want every game, as goldenpp72 says, but I think my collection is unique with some unusual things and I have a way of going about it.

lol IDK. IMO the test unit is more dank than the mint zelda. but im getting old and maybe i dontunderstand the real definition of dank. i always referred dank to good cannabis.
and your beef is with dank collectors who clown on dirt collectors? or is your beef with people who spend $ on dank?

My 2 cents: 90% of the time I even have a discussion with someone on a facebook trade group it ends with me being criticized for not only my opinion, but what I collect. I have never had a problem with that on here. The facebook groups and craiglist make me appreciate NA that much more. You can ask a question without someone making you feel like an idiot, even if it is a known answer.

lol IDK. IMO the test unit is more dank than the mint zelda. but im getting old and maybe i dontunderstand the real definition of dank. i always referred dank to good cannabis. and in that particular scenario the test unit is more dank, no?

so check this out. im going to clown on skinny cause he only smokes dank bud. lol what a poser. the guy doesnt even like to smoke dirt bud. skinny doesnt even appretiate the dirt bud that you have to pick out the sticks and stones of then barely gets you high and leaves you with a splitting headache that can only be relieved by downing some brew. IDK if that idea would fly. ive smoked my share of dirt but if i have the option im going with the dank bud.

now if skinny is only smoking dank and clowns anyone who smokes less than dank. now maybe i am understanding your definition of "dank collector".
but if skinny smokes dank and dirt, but spends his $ on dank before dirt, is he then a "dank collector"?
and your beef is with dank collectors who clown on dirt collectors? or is your beef with people who spend $ on dank?
is anyone who has a zelda nes cart a dank collector? what if that same collector owns a dynowarz cart as well, still a dank collector? just having nes carts makes you a dank collector? a real retro gamer spends no $ on consoles or carts (unless its a non dank console by some hipsters definition?) and only plays the games via cheapest way possible?

oh boi ive spent to much time here.........

Dank is used ironically by people who are ironic hipsters. Its like using their own stuff against them. Its an internet thing. I linked a video where you can see the term dank used ironically. Lol the internet is a strange place. Itd be like the guy who says he only smokes dank but its just some regular ass shit that hasn't been cured properly and taste like flowers and looks pretty but it might as well me lavender mixed with tobacco. All pulp, no juice type shit. Like the guy who's taking about how he only smks dank and has white widow thats dark green and has a couple big dookie seeds.

Yeah dude, thats what im talkin about. I didn't mean to single out NA as the home of the danksters, quite the opposite. FB and other forums are un-browse-able for me anymore BC of the dank-over.
