I like protos with hand-written/poorly printed labels and jumper wires and shoddy soldering. I guess I am too sentimental about old game crap, but stuff like that just makes them seem more personal and brings out the "human" aspect of game creation behind the pretty, mass-produced versions.

Then you'll love the pics in this auction that ended super quick a few days ago: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-of-5-...

These were used for Nintendo Power coverage. Note the heartbreaking Wild Boys cart that has Kickle Cubicle EPROMs inside.

Holy shit. I need to expand my protos search parameters, I completely missed it.

This argument is utterly moronic. Are people really that confused over how publishing works?!?!

Dragon Warrior was published by Nintendo of America, fact. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if NOA converted the game from CNROM to MMC1 on top of all the marketing and printing they did for that game. Dragon Warrior 1 was even given out for free as a promotional for Nintendo Power. How is it not a first party game?!

Another example, the US/CAN release of MegaMan 6 is a first party Nintendo game, because it was published by Nintendo rather than Capcom.

I'm sorry that you feel like a genuine discussion on Nintendo age is moronic. I'm pretty sure that we all know it was published by Nintendo, that's not the point. I'm just a little confused in the situation of Conker, so is that a first party game in some parts of the world and third party in others?

Yeah, I saw that listing when it was posted. Shame about Wild Boys. Makes you wonder if the EPROMs were used for said game and then overwritten with KC, or if they were removed and stored elsewhere. SMB3 is cool, too bad it doesn't predate the JP release.

I asked the seller where they came from, she said it was the estate sale of a "writer from Nintendo."

Most of the N64 Rareware games, including Conker, say "published by Rareware" right on the label. Those are 2nd party games, because Nintendo owned a majority percentage of the company who published the game.

For the times an N64 Rareware game was published by a third party (like THQ), that is either a 2nd party release because Nintendo still owned a majority percentage in Rareware, or it's third party because of the publisher.

Either way, I'm pretty sure Rareware's games always got heavily scruitinized by Nintendo, with the possible exception of Conker's Bad Fur Day. It wasn't even covered in Nintendo Power IIRC.

My understanding, there's no such thing as a 2nd party publisher, it's just something fans made up. Sorta like how you never see "second party" checks, it's always third party. But second party does fit so well for describing things like rare\game freak games that weren't developed by internal developers.
