I would like to see an easier level as well. I just get too pissed off and tend to turn it off after 50 deaths. Great game, I just would love to see more of it by being able to pass the levels.

Yeah I suggest "normal" mode to restart you in the same room when you die. And the harder modes to the same as battlekid 1.

I tried to get Sivak to add a "mulligan" like that to BK1, but he had a lot of good points about the problems it can cause.

The main one had to do with rooms you jump or fall into. When jumping up, it'd be problematic to boost you into the room in the same way you first entered. Similarly, when falling, if he keeps putting you in the same entry point, you may die over and over and over, just due to how you jumped down from the room above.

Progress!

Timmy now jumps and falls and can enter rooms.
- Note no animation for falling yet.

Hoping to do more with it over the weekend.  Maybe when I have enough, I can do a general engine test build for all here.

This is why I have yet to beat it on easy mode...still working on it...maybe I will be ready for BK2 by the time it is released...that is a big MAYBE!!!

I like the original, but I highly doubt I will ever beat it.

Check out this really awesome WTB thread that I found, I heard this guy wants games at the cheapest rate possible!  Now on the look out for Unlicensed NES!

I love the difficulty of BK1. It's the main reason why I keep playing it. If it were easy, I would probably get bored of it. I've only owned the game for a couple of weeks and only get to play it a few days a week. I just now beat the second boss on normal mode. Sometimes it may only take me a few minutes to reach the next continue, sometimes a couple hours. I definitely see this game as beatable, but it is going to take some time. With the dificulty of the game, I highly doubt I will lose interest before the next release. I hope Mountain of Torment is more difficult than Fortress of Peril.

Well, harder is hard to say.  I guess it's all opinion based.  I will say that I think the overall design ought to feel more refined.

In development news:
-Almost have the core engine done.  Need to do wall gripping, ice blocks, and attacking.

I disagree with the game's difficulty. One hit deaths are really irritating for platformer games, even mario had the mushrooms. I love the music though and I've been playing it like a madman. Personally, I would like to see a lifebar like in Megaman, a game can still be really hard even with a lifebar, look at Ninja Gaiden, especially part 3. Anyway, thanks so much Sivak for making an incredible new game for the system I love and thanks for your channel for your underrated nes game vid, you are the reason I picked up Kabuki Quantum fighter! Can't wait for the new game, I just hope it's a bit easier to chew on.

Our little friend can grab walls now.

- This mechanic is going to be a lot of fun when spikes get into the game.

On one hit deaths: It may have taken you a long time to get the timing of every room down between continue points, but when you make that run from continue to continue without getting hit makes it look pretty badass.

I'm not a programmer or anything, maybe that's why I don't get it, but why can't you use the same engine from BK1 to program the sequel?

I also would like the cart to be grey like an original gamepak. Or is that a legal issue?

The old engine was, in reality, not spectacular.  This new one being written from the ground up is WAY better.  Plus, doing it a second time wasn't nearly as tough AND I feel better about being able to get it work without too many hitches.

The cart will actually be a NEW color that's not currently offered on retrousb.  It'll either be yellow or teal, but all signs seem to be pointing to teal.

I may have a demo video by the weekend. I'm still mad that sound isn't in the game yet, so I may wait for that... I need my upgraded music engine FTW!
