They do run together, someone was watching me play and they keep saying why didn't you get that, I am like its not the level, you made be die.

Not enough time left on the clock for me to give it another go, so nothing left but the tears

Still stuck on 6-1. Very frustrating. Reached 6-1 with 3 lives to spare and fire bolas.

Made it most of the way through the initial gauntlet and then jumped like an idiot into the water.
Blew through the 3 lives trying to dodge octopi... that level is a BEAST.


HUGE bummer this time through was that I missed one of the bonus stages (5-1, I think)... should have had a solid 5k - 10k more points :/



I can thank this contest for showing me how great this game is.
I was always a fan of 2 and 3, because who doesn't love riding dinosaurs?

But playing this one for a high score... made me realize how stupid the skateboard was and to actually seek out all of the hidden eggs and bonus levels.

This is definitely on my "to beat" list now.




Also, in terms of a truly zero-exploit game, we definitely saved the most solid for last!

I'm feeling optimistic since this beats everybody but Tom from last year's runthrough of this game... but BriGuy didn't compete that game, from what I could tell, and he is a proven arcade/platform beast this season, so I'm seriously nervous about him dropping in here in the next 30 or 40 minutes with a "beat it, neener-neener!".

Congrats on a great score and its been a pleasure playing against you and the rest of tier 2 this week.  I took a quick break to see it anyone updated and I'm going to go back now.  I'm in the middle of one last run, so we'll see...

I'm glad you and others enjoyed this one, cause I really took my time before making a final choice and I thought this one was as solid as it can get for a final.

Also, you did an awesome job with this score. I can't play favoritism, but I called that you had a good chance to win it all and I wouldn't mind my prediction happening

Congrats to you to brotha, you had a great score as well. I was on level 6-4, I'm pretty sure I did'nt die up until that point so I had either 7or 8 lives left. It literally came down to the final minute pretty much.

Holy crap BriGuy! I don't think I could've matched that even if I played this game solid for one year. Major congrats!

Tier 2: My final run crapped out at 175K, so its why nothing more from me. Congrats to Luke and Thundercat, and everyone else who placed too in the other tiers!

So did this game ever get a hint book or strategy guide?

The whole time I was playing, I was visualizing in my head how neat it would be to do a strategy guide in the old hand-drawn style that showed the hidden eggs and level layouts.

Nope never beat it before, 6-4 was the furthest I've ever made it to. But I had many, many, runs where I made it into level 6 but finally kept my weapon and that made all the difference. this morning I had a run of 365K and I lost my weapon right in the beginning of level 6-4 with about 4 lives left and burnt through all of them.

On my three runs that broke 350k, I was generally fortunate enough to only suffer a stupid death, or two, at relatively innocuous places due to carelessness... and then promptly get wiped out completely in 6-1 when I died once and ended up weaponless for the rest of the run.

Yeah, all of my "Gradius Syndrome" commentary was really put to shame once I got to Level 6 today...  I'm guessing from there on out, you are pretty screwed if you lose your weapons.




So, I never picked up a skateboard on purpose... what happens if you get the boss while on a skateboard?

If you get to keep it, beating the game on a skateboard would be a hell of a challenge mode, since if you had to pick up the first available skateboard in Stage 1 you'd never get the fireballs.

Yeah the one spot in particular that kept screwing me over and over again when I would be weaponless, was on 6-4-2 where theres the spring, 2 stationary spiders, a fire and the a pig guy walking across.

I really would never use the skateboard unless it was for a quick kill on a particular enemy, definitely never had while making it to a boss. but it would be interesting to see what would happen though.
