Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the Weekly Contests!  This week's game is going to be Kung Fu Heroes.  Here are the rules:

• 1 player only
• Play until Game Over
• No point racking (once the exit opens, you must leave the level)
• Take your picture on the title screen
• Highest score wins
• GENRE: Beat ‘Em Up

The contest ends Sunday, 10/26/14 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

This games scoring is hit or miss but very addictive.

Nifty scores so far! This is one of those "played it for 5 minutes to test" kind of games for me. I don't have a terrible amount of time set aside for it this week but we'll see what I can do.

I'm curious if anyone else has gotten to the secret bonus stage that, as far as I can tell, has not been documented on GameFAQs or any YouTube videos. It's similar to the Stage 3-3 Break Time, but instead of just getting an automatic 500,000 points and watching hearts dance around, you're actually on the screen punching the hearts for bonus points.

It seems to be completely random as far as I can tell, and I've only triggered it on stage 2-3, but with blue hearts being worth a whopping 100,000 points each (red are 10,000 points) I've been racking up 700,000 - 800,000 extra points in these playthroughs. This is why I'm expecting radically varying high scores for this game.

I think I triggered this special stage a few years ago when we played this game, but I think I never figured out how I done it.

Yeah, I got this too once. All I could find is something that says that you should go in a counter-clockwise motion around the screen and touch every corner. However, I tried that numerous times and it didn't seem to work (On 2-3!)

There's a ton of odd systems going on with this game.  You can power up your fists, and the icons you collect help you out against certain situations and enemy types.  I don't know what most of them stand for.  I think one of the S icons makes your character faster.  I know the mirror will reflect the lightning you encounter in later stages if you face it (easier to just jump over it) and the sword helps defeat certain enemies that are invulnerable to both punches and jump kicks.  So far the dragon headed guys are the only enemies I know of for sure that require the sword.

UPDATE:  There are a LOT of secret 500,000 point bonuses in this game.  I would attribute them to well over half of my total score.  I also killed the uni-gon (red monster) twice in this run which is 300,000 points per kill.

1120600 - I'm going on a vacation to Arles, France tomorrow so this may be my last score. Too bad, since I think I got addicted to this game Oh well, going on a vacation > NES

Friday and we're still on page 1? I didn't expect this game to garner a lot of competition, but this is a really slow thread. I just got a monster score reaching 6-4 before dying. I'll post it over the weekend if I don't best it by Sunday. This game is pretty challenging, even though it defaults you back to 3 lives when you have less then that after finishing a stage.

Anyone kill the red monster yet? I read up on the Uni-gon and it appears he's worth a whopping 300,000 if you defeat him. I can't kill him without losing lives though so I haven't been bothering. Still, that's a lot of extra points to be leaving on the table.

Hahaha, I was just getting ready to post the same thing!  The contest as a whole in the last month or so is hitting a pretty big lull.

As for myself, this game is a little bit interesting but pretty wonky too.  I have not dedicated much time to it at all.

October, November, and December is a busy time of year that is pretty dense with holidays.

I'd expect it to get pretty slow.

Weird ass game

I've been busy with Halloween stuff so haven't even sat down to play it yet. Also, needed a break from last week (that killed my thumbs lol).

Played it for like 20 mins before I realized you could hit the bushes and stuff! Holy crap that made it better LOL

I didn't really get into Kung-Fu Heroes this week.

The only reason my score is so decent is because I stumbled into the Super Happy Fun Blue Heart Bonus Area by sheer happenstance! 

From which area did you get into the bonus zone? I got there once from 2-3

I was able to get into the heart zone in stage 2-3 consistently on every run I went through by moving through the stage in a counter clockwise rotation.  I started at the bottom left, and punched at every block except the two in the middle until I made it around to the top left.  The middle-right block among the batch at the top left corner always transported me to the heart zone when I punched/jumped into it.  Also, Stages 6-1, 6-3, and 7-1 all have moving platforms that are located in pit zones.  if you jump on them successfully, you get a 500,000 point bonus one time per stage.
