Hey everyone, we have decided to use this thread to keep track of our systems. The information collected will be used to help us decipher how systems were numbered, or anything else that can be gleamed from this endeavor! Basically, we are looking for serial number, when/where you picked it up, or any other interesting info you may have about it. Are you the original owner? So on. This topic originated here...

http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/...

Also, newly introduced is the thread for the Super Nintendo. See here:

It was in rather rough shape, missing it's cartridge door and the AV port label was peeling. original owner must have bought an Action Set since there was a controller, light gun, SMB/DH, SMB3 and Rad Racer. The AC Adapter wasn't original but the RF Switch was.

Well, I have a ton of decks, but I have only one in which I'm the original owner. I have N28378817. It's part of an Action Set, NES-ACMH-CAN-1, purchased in late '89 (I got it for Christmas, but I suspect it was bought in November).

"It's always amazing to me how some of the most worthless games from a gaming perspective tend to fetch outrageous amounts of money. But then again, it could be said that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I'm curious if the high bidder of the $873.04 Stadium Events (cart-only) realizes that it's nowhere nearly as rare as about 20+ games I can think of that sell for 1/10th that amount?  At any rate, I wanted to draw attention to this trend: if people say it's rare, it must be true, and therefore it must be had at any price."

Nice Wizzy! I will get this updated on the list! Once I get the spreadsheet all worked out, I will start adding a Note section to include any info you guys provide. I also want to learn how NGD added pictures to his list to add any pictures you guys might include.

I'm wondering if the first digit represented the region perhaps? I find it hard to believe that 28 million NES units were sold in a matter of 4 years...then again, it probably DID sell that well...

On my #0121347 NES, I asked Limbofunk about it when I bought it. I guess it was bought as a gag gift by children of a father who hated electronic gadgets. He had bought it off the original owner, also I believe in NY. It was in the original non Deluxe Deluxe box, so it probably did come from the early NY release in October of 85. Limbofunk can chime in if he has anymore details.

When I was a kid, I wasnt allowed to have an NES, so I dont have any from my childhood.  I didnt get one until after the system was dead (1995, when I was 14) but it was all second hand stuff.

Awesome! I had mine in that other post, too, and it's number 0306484. It's from a pre-Deluxe Deluxe set. I'll get my top loaders noted too when I get a chance.

Do you include top loaders, or toasters? My top loader NN10166396(8) came in a yard sale sometime in 94-95.

Perhaps NN designated a toploader, while N was a regular toaster? Either that or a typo

Some of the later toasters (think 1991 or '92 onwards) came with NN on the serial number and a gray-boxed check digit...I have one with a serial number in the 34- or 35-million range that has this.

Nice yard sale find! It wasnt very old at the time, either!

Here's two more for the list.  Both are from non-deluxe deluxe sets.  For a while I didn't think I was going to get the lower numbered NES...It took the guy 2 weeks to ship it.

I got two original style and one top loader. One of mine was from LA in 1985 from the test launch and as such has a really low number and as I recall there were just 150000 put out to test so mine is higher in the lot.
1) N0142379
2) N20378399

Top loader
1) NN101742014

An interesting probably known tidbit, very early model NES units had a slick smooth shell, somewhere along the line they went into a rough textured mold. I forgot about this years ago, rediscovered it when I got the second oldie in a lot and I wanted to change the flap on my deck and it texture wise didn't match so I left it as is.

Thanks Tanooki, I gotcha down. Thats a cool story about your low SN, I didnt realize that the NES hit LA that early. Also, good point about the smooth shell on the top of the early toasters. This was a detail I meant to ask contributors about, so we can get some idea of when they stopped doing this. My early toaster is also smooth topped.

No problem. Yeah if you ever get ahold of that 'Game Over' book that talks up the 1880s-1996 era of the Nintendo company it has a good bit of all the amazing history of the early NES peddling/failure days and how they dual launched a test in October of 1985 in select shops in LA County and NYC. The shit sold like crack, so it went into mass production and then hit the shelves next year I think February 1986. I lost the book to a move or I'd go check it.
