Has anyone found a grey that matches the Nintendo color? I'm curious about it because we always see carts covered in marker and so far the only options are to bleach them or paint them a different color. Then there's the issue of SNES and NES games being a different shade of grey also. I might take one to home depot and have them mix up a gallon of Nintendo Grey

Ok not really.

Anyway, to anyone wondering about color choices, the paint comes out quite well. The photos are actual products and I have the Dig Dug from the first page to show for it.

Quick review: I got these in the other day. They were plastic wrapped, shipped safely in a box. The labels and carts looked great. I took them out, and went to play them on my NES Sharp TV... for some reason they didn't work. I took them to my top loader, and both shot up first time. I see they are using NTSC boards, so I'm not entirely sure why they wouldn't boot on my Sharp TV, since it's essentially just a giant toaster. (Keep in mind I did test the Sharp TV with another game, SMB @, but for some reason these two just didn't want to play)

The games ran perfectly smooth otherwise. I'm not sure if something is wrong with my Sharp TV (Doesn't seem to be) but other than that hiccup I'm very happy with my purchase. Any idea why this might happen?

I do intend to purchase more in the future. The workman ship was top notch, and better than some others I've purchased in the past. Great guy, great buy. Thanks!

I just wanted to let everyone know that due to artistic license Eric Bishop has decided all repros will now be shipped painted Sparkly Magenta. I hope everyone is OK with that. Ok, not really.

Robert, the only difference between the Toaster and top load is the lock out chip. No one else is having issues and I must assume some are using toasters.

There are youtube vids that show the changes. It's too much to summarize.

Magical Doropie features the Video Smash Excellent translation.

From the Readme file of that translation:
------------------------------------------------------------
8. The Krion Conquest and Some Ways In Which It Differs From
   Magical Doropie
------------------------------------------------------------

Word on the street is that the original plans for MD's North American release would have left it pretty much intact, with the name changed to Francesca's Wand. Why they dropped these plans is anyone's guess; perhaps this is around the time Vic Tokai decided to get out of games and the project's funding was cut. Thanks for Skrybe for the info!

Anyway, as far as TKC goes, there don't seem to be any core gameplay changes between it and MD, but nearly everything outside gameplay is different or (usually) gone. To wit:

- TKC has all cutscenes save the intro completely excised. The pretty screens introducing each round are also gone.

- The intro is actually pretty much fully translated (the content is actually closer to the original than mine--I had to fit it all in twenty lines). The Akudama Empire has become the Krion Empire, and Doropie has become Francesca. The background in the witch- summoning scene has been lightened for some reason, and even more bizarre is the new rendition of Doropie/Francesca. It's not bad, but what on earth was objectionable about the original?

- TKC has been given a standard ugly-NES-game title screen. The name is changed to The Krion Conquest, and the music has been adjusted to something more likely to appeal to 10-year-old boys (I guess). The witch with the bare shoulders is of course out, even though that has an even greater chance of appealing to 10-year-old boys.

- The hexagram or whatever that announces the end of each sublevel is absent, of course. I like the image of parents walking in on that one.

- TKC lacks MD's continue feature. You die, you die. But that's okay, as it just makes it more satisfying to finally reach the ending, right?

- TKC's ending is HORRID. I'll spoil it for you right now (without spoiling MD) so that you don't have to wonder about it. The final boss goes down, and without even the decency to fade the screen out, the words "YOU WIN!!" scroll up, followed by "CONGRATULATIONS!", an abbreviated MD credits list, and then "THE END". I notice in particular they took out the part where they thank you for playing. I think they hate us.

Hmm, ok apparently it can be summarized.

Ohhh, you posted xxxx videos. I can't wait to see those, oh you meant the game.

edit.......

Let me ask a question of the crowd, just opinions really. If you had to choose one Mario hack which would it be?

Eric, or anyone else, what type of paint do you use for the gold and silver? I have a gold paint that looks ok but it's gold color only, not metallic enough. I've currently fallen in love with  Duplicolor Metal Specks

I've used the red, blue and green but I think I want to try the silver now. It's too bad they don't offer gold in that line as the burnt copper is to orange for my tastes.

This guy's quality looks really high which is a step in the right direction to be an heir apparent to TimeWalk (imo). If I cared anything about the NES I'd have bought some of this guy's stuff for sure.

The dudes over at Flashback are also doing their best to try and fill TimeWalk's shoes and are trying to get into the box/manual business... but really any sort of group/company that's fond of doing quality releases for hacks/homebrews/unreleased games is a welcomed thing in my eyes with TimeWalk being gone.

I hope Bishop here does well and sticks around!

I honestly can't speak on Eric's (AKA 8-BitBishop) behalf, but from what I know from talking to him recently he has, from what I understand, stopped doing repro's of any games that were licensed, or were unreleased. He will still be working on homebrew releases and is working on getting some very high quality manuals and boxes made, but I wouldn't count on too much business in the repro area, sad as that is.

If you don't mind me asking, any insight on why? Is it just the whole legality of doing repros or just too time consuming?

Hmmm. I think I'd let him talk on that, if he wants too. But I'd say moral decision based on his own feelings if I were to say anything.

While I was nervous about the possibility of the pursuit of legal action, I am still at it. I was worried after I heard rumors of Nintendo taking action on a fellow repro maker recently. I'm not out of the game unless I recieve a cease and desist letter. You can thank Ryan(Infamous Lunchbox), for giving me solid advice, and helping me not run away with my tail between my legs!

No, thank you for being awesome! But seriously, these posts here happened just after, and right at the beginning of our convo we had tonight. That can't be coincidence, can it?

These things look great, nice work man! You plan on sticking to the NES for the immediate future or branching off towards other systems?
