After seeing some other people post pictures of their NES bead art (especially Whammbamm's Mega Man ones), I decided to make some of these myself.  I enjoy making these, and although it does get tedious sometimes, the end result is worth it.  These look so cool when they're done.  Scroll down to the bottom of the first post to see the latest.

I'm quite proud of the Dragonlord.  Also, my wife made me a crochet Dragon Warrior slime:

Now he has a brother!

Here's my Firebrand from Gargyole's Quest II (with my Metroid for size comparison):

It's been a while, but I just finished making a few more - gotta have some Mega Man and Mario:

5-30-10: My biggest bead art to date.  Malroth is HUGE.  I put a Drakee and my Dragonlord in for size comparison.  It took about 5000 beads and at least 15 hours to finish the bead placement.  The ironing took several hours also.

2-13-11:  I hadn't made any bead projects in a long time, so I decided to make some more.  Here's the Super Mario 2 crew.

6-18-11:  Here's one I just finished:  Zoma from Dragon Warrior III.  Zoma took a bit over 4600 beads.

4-4-12:  My wife did some crochet and made a Mr. Saturn!

I decided to go SNES and make the cast of Final Fantasy III/VI:

4-12-12:  The Earthbound crew!

7-15-12:  The Chrono Trigger gang!

7-21-12:  Mega Man Robot Masters!

Also an E-Tank and Dr. Wily:

7-25-12:  Mega Man 2 Robot Masters!

8-12-12:  Mega Man 3 Robot Masters!

8-18-12:  Alucard and Samus:

6-6-15:  Various female characters for my daughter's toy box:

Other random characters I've been working on:

Also, my favorite enemy from Earthbound - the Insane Cultist!

More to come once they are finished.

I added a pic of the DW Slime my fiancee made me. It turned out really well! As for my next bead art, I have no idea what to make. I am planning what to do right now. I do want to make some smaller ones and glue magnets to the back of them to put on our fridge. Maybe some SMB mushrooms or stuff that size.

Those look great! The Dragonlord turned out really well!

Also, I love the crochet slime! My wife does crochet...maybe that will eventually be something to teach future kids to induce them to make their own toys and dolls!

Ok, I made my next one: Firebrand from Gargoyle's Quest II. I'll post a pic once it's ironed tomorrow.

You should get your fiancee to write out the patterns for the crochet work.
And get her to make MORE!

I just took pictures of my craigslist find from last night and figured I'd take a picture of my Mega Man 9 bosses so far. I'll update my thread when I finish the rest of them.

Here's a link to the pattern for the crochet slime (this is not our design!!). We used white felt for the whites of the eyes, black buttons for the pupils, and pinkish-red felt for the mouth. I recommend a lighter blue than the creator chose, but to each his own.

Awesome!  Thanks!

I'm totally hooked on this idea after seeing the write-up in Nintendo Power about the people making those crochet Japanese dolls of Nintendo characters.

I think it would be the coolest thing for a kid to have a set of these to play with, instead of regular stuffed animals.

Susan (my fiancee) always does a "test run" of anything new she's crocheting. She just happened to use some silvery/gray yarn for the test. Two eyes and a black piece of felt, and it will be a metal slime!

Those are awesome! I gotta look into how to do this bead art thing. Very tempted to try my hand at one of these. I think a bead art Kirby may be in order here.

^Totally. Not only that, his NES incarnation had tons of powers, giving you a plethora of bead art Kirbys to choose from.

It is not really that hard...even if you have to make up the design for yourself... I imagine that it gets really difficult when you start making poster size pictures. But what we do, little 8-bit icons are fun. I think the largest I have done is a Donkey Kong, or maybe the Dr. Mario set for Kat...either way...only about 1000 beads and took maybe an hour or so (while on NA and watching t.v.)
Get a starter kit...and have fun sorting! (That takes the longest)

Awesome.

My wife actually picked up a recent "Crochet" magazine, and they had a whole section on crochet dolls and stuffed animals.
