**Update** 3DS tracking playtime again, cause still unknown! Is my 3ds giving me a hint to put it down and get a life?

Has this happened to anyone else?

My 3DS abruptly stopped keeping track of my games played and playtime on the 8th of August this year, for no discernable reason. All records to that point are intact, and strangely the system HAS kept track of my steps each day as normal since then. Only the games played and playtime are lost.

It's not a huge deal, but I do like to browse through every now and then, and I was only about 4 pages away from filling up the game list! Does anyone have an idea of how to fix this, or what might have happened? It would be a shame if I couldn't keep compiling this data, since I already have the best part of 5 year's worth on here!

Any ideas?

Maybe it's a sign of the 3DS end of life beginning? I don't even remember the last time I used mine... I'll have to check it out.

I just checked mine and it's still keeping track of all my progress. I've never heard of that happening before. I love the activity log though, it is really cool to be able to go back and see stats on games you've played. Have you modded your 3DS at all?

Is there a way to turn it on or off? Maybe you got it turned off.

I haven't modded my 3DS, and as far as I know I haven't turned it off. I will take a look at the digital instructions (if it has any) and check what might of happened...aubergine I was playing too much Pokémon Shuffle and it got bored of keeping track, lol!

Right, according to the manual:

"When play time records and steps data are full, records will be deleted, starting with the oldest. You can record a maximum of approx. 10 years' worth of data, depending on usage."

Also:

"Records for up to 256 titles can be stored. If exceeded, records will be deleted starting with the shortest playtime, with titles not played for 30 days or more being deleted first "

However, none of my records have been deleted, and of course I have not accrued 10 years' worth of data. Besides, these provisions seem to be intended to ensure the continued collection of data in any case, rather than stopping collecting it entirely...

So confused!

Ok, so the activity log has started tracking playtime and games played again! I guess using the app somehow rebooted it. However, the mysterious gap in the records remains. I decided to look back and see if this had happened before, and sure enough there is also a gap in my records for about 5 weeks from jan-feb this year. No other suspicious gaps can be found, so probably just a glitch then, I guess!
