what a shame, things are never that bad to need to take your own life.
no matter what is going wrong in your own life there is always someone worse off or in a harder spot than you are.
Depression is an illness in need of treatment, it is not something that you simply will away. Often it doesn't make sense, isn't coherent, and causes you to do things you normally wouldn't. Why else would he do what he did with his wife on the other side of the door? And why else would he have put up such a convincing mask for everybody else?
Have you had true, chronic depression? If not, you can't speak for what it's like for those who have.
You don't know what he went through either. And as somebody who struggled/still struggles with chronic depression and trauma and all those things, I know for a fact telling yourself that your problems are insignificant because others have bigger problems only makes it worse. Regardless of how big your problems are, they ARE important and they NEED care, love, attention, and patience. Your advice is well-intentioned but unsafe. Just because you're not some starving child dying of cholera in a backwater shithole, it doesn't make your problems any less real, valid, important, or heartbreaking.
I didn't know much about this guy aside from base familiarity until today, but what an incredible guy. I'll miss him.
