Recently the beta of the original Pokmone Silver/Gold has been leaked.

Here's what the sprites originally looked like first for the Pokemon that made it to the Silver/Gold games, including those that didn't.

The rom is currently being translated and being patched up to be fully playable in english soon. Not sure when it will be finished though.

This is really cool! I'm gonna have to check this out! I do see a lack of Totodile though...

This is so incredible. I love a lot of these designs, especially that one of Noctowl. Can't wait til it's patched in English, but for those that can't wait I guess it is available to download now.

Some of them did! Obviously a bunch of them are just early designs for pokemon actually in silver/gold. But a bunch are early designs that didn't come out until a generation or two later, or at least that is how it appears.

The last pokemon on the bottom right looks like an early stage Leafeon.

The angler/eel looking pokemon next to crobat was likely an early design for Lanturn or possibly huntail.

The 2 pokemon to left of the angler pokemon are probably caravahna and sharpedo. 

The seashell pokemon to the right of umbreon is the shell on Slowkings head, looks like he was meant to be an actual pokemon.

I am sure there are more i am just not seeing too!

Really cool to see this, would love to play it when it is released. 
 

^ The rat/mouse toward the bottom left looks like Dedenne a bit too (that one didn't show up til Gen 6). Interesting to see it originally had an evolution.

Also my friend pointed out the Voodoo Doll pokemon to me, the one with the pin in it to the right of that rat/mouse pokemon. That would have been so sick. Imagine a pokemon that had one move, like Ditto's transform, that allowed it to take the form of whichever pokemon it used it against. And then, any damage/status done to the voodoo doll has the same effect on the Pokemon it copied. I doubt that was actually what the original intent of the Pokemon was but that would have been really cool. Probably would be way too OP in the meta, though I doubt that was a big concern in 1997 for the developers lol.

Yeah you are right, it does look like dedenne, i never played past generation 5. 

As for the voodoo doll, that is likely the precursor to banette. Who isn't exactly a voodoo doll but a posessed doll with a similar concept.

And a similar move to that is curse, although not quite exactly the same. When a ghost pokemon uses it like a banette, a voodoo pin stabs through the pokemon and they lose either half their health or die. And in return the opponents pokemon gets a curse that drains their HP. 

Also the pokemon under the eel, looks like it could have been sneasel, black cat like pokemon with a gem on the forehead. 

The thing to the left of Delibird looks like Popplio

The fire starter appears to be similar in design to Litleo and Pyroar

Kinda dig the designs there for Entei and Raikou

Where the fuck is Lugia? Is that the one directly above Entei? Glad they changed that design
 

Yeah that has to be lugia, i thought the same. The wing design and dark eyes give it away for me. Some of the basic designs are pretty neat. 

Tyranitar is completely missing.

 

So is the entire cyndaquill line and totodile line. Not to mention chikoritas second evolution is a little janky.

Yup they were originally whatever the line of pokemon were beside it. One looks like a plesiosaurus, and the other some kind fire dog/bear or whatever it is. I am glad they change the fire to cyndaquil. But i think the plesiosaurus is pretty rad. I can see why they gave it up though because Lapras already existed. 

 

The middle evo for Chikorita looks so out of place. At least with the other two they make some sense. I do dig the water guy, but I like Totodile/Croconaw/Feraligatr better I think. The little water guy is friggin adorable though

oh and to the left of crobat, the eel lookin guy is hilarious

Are we going to ignore the fact that Remoraid is a straight up gun? Like seriously, that's a revolver.

Lol, I like how the taser just shoots out a pikachu.

Someone on twitter posted about how the Remoraid/Octillery line makes sense now. It was always weird how a fish evolved into an octopus, it seemed like they were two different evolution lines at some point or something... but now it's clear Remoraid was a gun and Octillery was a tank which makes a lot more sense..

Also it kinda makes sense that Lugia isn't there but ho-oh is. Ho-oh has been around since the first pokemon ep and Lugia didn't make it's first appearance till the second pokemon movie. I recently read somewhere around the threads over /vp/ that Lugia was thrown in around the very end of the game's development.

Right, that does make sense actually. Gen 1 only had Mewtwo, it wasn't until Gen 2 that they started doing two main legendaries per game

 

Hmmm... can't wait to try this out. Anyone play it on real hardware yet? I haven't read into it yet, but is trading possible?

Yup. And idk why i didn't notice until now but from then on they used the two legendaries as mascots for the game, instead of the starters. Would be interesting to see what the games would have looked like using the starters instead. 

 

Is this entire game playable or is it just a demo? I've got an everdrive so it wouldn't be a problem to really bother with it if it's worth the effort.

You never think a first-party proto has a chance in hell of showing up, and here it is. Totally surprised whoever originally owned it even got hold of it, if this is indeed one of the carts that were for demo play in 1997. I hope this gives a chance for many other holy grails to come out sooner or later.
