So I've been playing mostly Atari stuff lately so I'm just curious... do you count stuff like Galaxian and Galaga as the types of games that belong here? Generally, when I sit down at my Atari I give a couple runs on both games.

Edit:  I just ask because I don't know if people count single screen games as such.

Those would count, yes. As long an the essence of shmup is there, it will be accepted.

Hhmmm... Back to the Future? It's kind of shmuppy. I've mentioned that before but no one commented. It seems more much like a shooter than anything else with bonus games in between. NES and earlier is where I'm hazy about what to consider. It's pretty clearly defined from SNES/Genesis and up, I think.

I've actually never played Pocky and Rocky before. I know there are some shooters I wouldn't mind popping in sometime soon but my scores would get destroyed pretty easily.

I'd allow it. It basically has two modes, both resembling the genre.

Another game similar to it that I would NOT count is Paperboy. Difference being that in Paperboy your goal is to deliver papers, while in Back to the Future, the main goal for points is to shoot things in a shmup style.

Pocky and Rocky I'd allow. It's a shmup in the same sense that Mamorukun Curse is. Like I say, as long as the essence is there, I'll allow it.

it pretty much has everything a shooter would have except the forced scrolling. So you go at your own pace. I dunno

Got 319330 in Nes Galaga
Got 316680 on Abadox. Stage 6, No continues. I took it right before I got a game over because. It doesn't display your final score anywhere after game over.

This sounds interesting, but I am terrible at shoot-em-ups!
And quite busy as of late.

Good job! I've added your scores to the scores post on the first page!

Does anybody play any Saturn shooters? I just finished Soukyugurentai last night on 1 credit for the first time. I cleared Guardian Force last week as well. I think that is one of the most underrated shmups.

I've never had a Saturn, alas.

I might pop in some Abadox or Galaga but I've been pretty hooked lately.

I don't know much about everdrives but I'd look into something like that. Far too expensive to be getting into import Saturn collecting at this point. For me, I wish I had picked up a Turbografx years ago. I've been told there are lots of quality shooters on that system.

Any shmups across any console are welcome on this board! Saturn, PC, PS4, NES, TurboGFX, whatever! Seeing some scores put up should encourage others to try some games!

If you wanna be captain Saturn Shmup, go ahead!

Playing my copy of Gun NAC for the first time. I consider myself an okay shmup player (I was a distant 3rd place last year) and I didn't suffer my first death until the boss of level 4. So I'm guessing this is considered one of the easier games on the NES...

Blah, I game over'd a minute or so from the end.  I'll get the score up at some point
