Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the Weekly Contests!  This week’s game is going to be Road Blasters.  Here are the rules:

  • Start on Level 1 (Bubble City)
  • Play until Game Over (You can use credits)
  • Take your picture on the High Score screen after the intros
  • If you roll the score (1 million points), take a picture of when you roll the score and try to get a picture of your final score immediately after your run (be ready to press pause while you still can) so we can see the stage you're in.
  • Highest score wins
  • Participation: 50,000
  • GENRE: Shooter/Shoot ‘Em Up

The contest ends Sunday, 9/18/16 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

I wondered whether we would start on level 1 or level 4. Starting on level 4 (default), my best score has been around 30k, and it was tough to even get that.

The way I determine the participation is often as follow : I play 1 run of a game and I divide my score by 4 or 5. I never played Roadblasters before testing it for the contest.

There are points in the game where it lets you choose levels and you can skip some. Ruling?

I'm gonna have to ace Road Blasters this week because there's no way I'm making top 8 with Danny Sullivan.

Well, if we'd have to do a ruling on this it would be to not skip levels, but since skipping levels is pretty much like spoiling points opportunity, we can leave it at the discretion of the player.

Yeah, it's a high score contest, so I don't see the purpose for skipping levels.

To avoid some of the more difficult "rally's"

But you can avoid some of the difficult stages that could potentially end your run...

Then we can call it strategy. but in the end the player going through all stages has a better chance to score higher.

Oh, you can use credits. In my practice runs I always started over after losing my first credit because I assumed no continues would be allowed.

Being able to use all my credits should really increase my score, heh.

Definitely, 50,000 shouldn't be a problem to grab the 3 participation points

This game has a glitch where if you pause then it won't let you unpause for a few seconds.

Someone might think that their start button is wearing out. No it's the game.

Pretty cool game. The weapon system, combined with the multiplier, keeps things interesting. The water spinouts are obnoxious, especially starting with levels 8 and 9, but at least you can recover without burning a continue. Definitely prefer this to Danny Sullivan, hah.

I guarantee you that at least one player will roll the score this week.

Might want to take a picture when you're getting close to 999,999 and then take a picture after.

I didn't know how to play it before! LOL.

Before today I didn't know how the score multiplier worked (apparently the game only tips you off on that if you start on level 1 and I always started on level 4) and I just fired my gun all the time.

This is actually a pretty cool game with a neat scoring system, but the game does take a long time and there are 50 levels.

It's so repetitive! And drawn out! Like seriously, 50 rally's! Wtf! The only thing that's difficult is sitting down for long enough to just push through this pile.

It's a bit of a marathon. After my one attempt today, I don't feel like doing another for a while.
