Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the weekly contests!  This week's game is an arcade classic whose main protagonist has a filthy mouth and game play mechanics that may leave you using the same foul language.  That's right, it's time for some Q-Bert.  Here are the rules:

  • 1 player only
  • Choose whichever control setup you want
  • Play until Life 0.  As soon as you get to Life 0, you must stop playing the game and take your picture.  You may not play any of the game on Life 0 or your score will be disqualified
  • Highest score wins
  • GENRE: Arcade

The contest ends Sunday, 9/1/13 at 10 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

-------------------------

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Latest Purchase(s): Snow Brothers

"Wait...Bimmy and Jimmy??  How'd they make a mistake like this!?  Bimmy isn't even a real name!"

Beware the Bimmy Marsh!

Oh Q-Bert...this should be a good one. I take it NA will have quite the number of good Q-Bert players here. And I'm not one of them, but it should be a fun time no less! ^>^

One of the classic arcade games. I love it but find it so difficult. Anyways, I'll get the ball rolling here. For the Q-Bert masters out there, do you have any good tips? I'm looking to improve my score, not to win this contest, merely to become a better Q-Bert player. I swear! ^>^

53,230 points.

I am
Horrible at Qbert. I mean REALLY bad.

At least this will help me get better.

There is no way I will be in top 10...but...as I said, this is yet again another game that really just sits on the shelf...so I'm excited to actually get better than "awful" at it

This took quite a few attempts. Level 3 where the blocks revert to another color EVERY TIME you step on them gets irritating.

I only know this game because of Wreck it Ralph! Should be fun, if not challenging. And I'm going to leave my picture UP this week. I had no idea that deleting the file from your uploaded images deleted it from the posts it was in... And I find out today
Live and learn I guess...

Or you can just use photobucket since it's free and easy to use.

15,390. Wow I had forgotten how confusing the control scheme can be. I haven't played this since our local Foodland had one in about 1985.

I played alittle bit last night and there's a bit of a learning curve with the controls. I have the arcade port on the ps3 and adjusting back to a NES controller has been difficult.

i didnt realize that no, i was under the impression that we were supposed to play until live zero rather than through it. i hit pause when i got hit and lost my "life #1" the counter doesnt go down to zero until after qbert is done @#!$&!-ing. i figured that was the appropriate time to take the pic as it was the only way to ensure i wasnt hopping around scoring points on my zero life.

*edit (cant type good)

Sure, I'll post an early one. This is one of my favorite NES games. However it requires a lot of patience. You have a lot of lives and they can be replenished, so if you die, don't take example from Q*Bert and himself by beating yourself up over it.

EDIT: better score below, old score ~53,000

I've always been really good at the arcade version. Never played this version until a few months ago. Pretty disappointed in this port overall, but it's not horrific. I still should be able to do pretty well nonetheless. I should have a score up on thursday.

It's okay for you guys to pause the game once your life total flips over to "0."  That way it's easier to capture your score and you don't have to worry about missing it.

Okay here's a better score but I definitely think I can top this. The rewards become much greater at the high levels but it's hard to get through them without dying. Luckily I had lots of lives in reserve. Those little green guys are troublemakers!
