Eh, what's up with Adults only? Was there something that made this decision to be made?

I'll be 100% blunt and honest, that's a huge downside/turnoff to these type events personally.

I think it's just the adult language really. People don't want to have to watch what they say, especially if they've been drinking.

I think JT's thought and everyone involved with planning this thinks that the topics of discussion and behavior might not be so kid friendly. Plus, Paul's campout is family oriented so is it really needed that every event be kid friendly? I know some people will not be able to make the trip because of this, and that sucks, but it's not like you bring your kids to the bar, and that is the kinda atmosphere this is/was.

BTW, I am in, put me on the "will be there" list.

To be honest Matt laid it out pefectly in his answer.  The only thing I'm going to add is that, no, nothing happened that led to this.  We had a great time partying, and I don't want those who attend the event in the future to have to worry about watching what they say and do.  If that's a turnoff that kids or minors can't come I really don't know what to tell anyone turned off by it.  It's what I've decided to make things better for everyone - both kids and adults alike.

I had thought about this Jeremy and it was discussed in the intitial planning thread, but to be honest I don't have an answer just yet.  There is drinking that goes on (a lot of it) and I'm nervous about the possibility of getting busted for aiding and abetting minors.  This is another HUGE reason I decided to do next year's as adults only.  But let me think about it awhile and eventually I'll post whether AO for this means 18+ or 21+.

Thanks for the blunt and honest response.

I appreciate it.

This puts me on the fence, as you've set the dates for prime leaf change season, which means driving thru the mountains to see the beautiful colors.

Jeremy, I've thought more about this on the drive home from work, and I think we can go ahead and make this 18+.

I have a caveat to that, though.  If anyone under 21 drinks, it needs to be in the privacy of their own room and not the conference room.  And if I end up having to spend a crapload of time policing that I will make any future NAMMs we hold 21+.

Also on the way home from work, Rhet called and we had a conversation.  There might be a change in location as I might try to see if I can find a hotel that accommodates both smokers and non-smokers together.  I'm only going to move the rooms if I can find a similar rate, though.  I will also do my best to negotiate with Jameson's manager to get the smoking rooms as close to the non-smoking rooms as possible in price range.  I can't guarantee anything, but I'll do my damndest.

I liked the hotel we stayed at this year, and would like to stay there again, but understand the smoking situation for people like Rhet. It was kinda nice to get up and have breakfast ready, felt like a vacation.

Don't worry guys it'll be something decent if we do change location. What I'm really going to try to do is get the Jameson down on it's rates for the smoking rooms. If they won't come down I'll see if I can find a hotel with non-smoking and smoking rooms that matches Comfort's rates. I won't know more until after the new year, though, possibly Feb. or Mar.

Just a heads up guys, there is a strong possibility that the LSX shootout will be in Indy this same weekend, extra 9-12K people in town, don't know if that will play a factor on our hotel situation.

Put me down for attending and put me down for Champion Of The Conference Room Microphone again.

And yes it'll suck if Paul can't attend but I understand his reasoning if he can't come. Honestly though, NAMM 2011 was really, really rowdy and not kid friendly in any way. Matt said it perfectly that it's like a bar.

Can someone ellaborate on what to expect at one of these? Kinda curious what plans you have and what you guys do besides meeting new people and hanging out and playing video games. Don't get me wrong, that sounds like the best damn vacation ever, just figured there'd be some cool stuff goin on.
