I store them in a few drawers of my closet.  That is for my licensed stuff.  For the unlicensed ones, they are separated by publisher / developer, and put into pull out plastic organizers.

Edit:  In may seem a bit strange, but in general I am more fond of the unlicensed Famicom stuff than the licensed..it is generally a lot rarer, and some of it is top-notch (but overlooked). 

I received a large lot of carts yesterday, so I was able to jump from 338 to 487 games! Almost at 500 and the 50% mark...

I got a copy of Hikari no Senshi Photon: The Ultimate Game on Planet Earth, which is one of my favorite titles for a game. It doesn't exactly live up to those standards, but it's still interesting to play.

Another cart I got was Softball Tengoku (Dusty Diamond), which doesn't seem to be too common. I see the NES version is pretty expensive these days. The Famicom one has some different/more bizarre characters which is cool.

What else...Cosmic Epsilon. That's a pretty cool Space Harrier type game (I don't have that one yet).

I also now have all 3 Final Fantasy games and all 4 Donkey Kong games - I still need the multicart for each, though. I also now have all the Hiryuu no Ken, Wizardry, and Ys games.

I've beaten Ice Climber before, but I wouldn't say I'm much of a fan. The Mario Bros. style controls are awkward, and I think if it wasn't for Nintendo's continual promotion of it, people wouldn't care about it at all. On the plus though, the Famicom version lets you club actual seals.

In other ice-related news, Nekketsu Hockey-bu is the Kunio hockey game we never got in the US, and it's pretty good. Along with Blades of Steel and Ice Hockey, that's three excellent hockey games on the system, which is more than you can say for Basketball/Football/Soccer.

This puts me over 500! Notable games here include Ikari. The Japanese version is just Ikari (anger), not Ikari Warriors. I guess it's a more fitting game given the player's experience with the cart. There's also Jesus - it's a Shadowgate-style graphic adventure game. Not as interesting as you'd think with the name (Jesus is the name of the space station the characters are on).

Also, getting Famista 93 means that I now have 8/9 Famista games on the system. If you don't know, the original Family Stadium game was RBI Baseball in the US. So just imagine 8 more sequels that look, play, and sound exactly like the first one. It's kind of crazy that they would keep putting them out year after year, but I suppose it's no different than sports titles nowadays.

Nice progress, I just placed an order and am waiting for a small set of games to arrive. It will put me at about 530 (licensed) games. Over the past month I was also able to cross about half a dozen rarities off of the unlicensed list, but I am not sure if I will ever be able to finish that set or not (some of the games just never show up, even if they sell fairly cheap).

There are definitely some nasty titles on your list, though. I just keep plugging away at the cheap titles, sometimes it feels that they just keep coming from all directions.

Finally, your list is incomplete. At first glance, it is missing Safety Rally, basically the Stadium Events of the Famicom. Another interesting title which you need (I already have it checked off) is the karaoke game.

I don't think Safety Rally was ever actually available for purchase, correct?

Unlike some of the Japanese promo carts and the like, this one actually contains a unique game, and not an "upgrade" of a previous title.  

Being one of the most expensive Famicom games, I am sure that is why this would be debated as belonging in a complete set.  I personally feel that it should belong, despite the fact that this one title could keep me from owning a full set.  

On another note, I think someone could make a case to knock Recca off the Famicom full set list:

While it was available for sale, it appears to have only been available for sale at the competition sites, more as a commemorative item than an actual game.  Heh.  Once again, I think this one also counts towards a full set.

On another note, what list are you using to track your collection?  I personally find that the database on Famicom World is most reliable, when it comes to completeness, though it lists 1081 Famicom games compared to the 1051 number that I have seen thrown around elsewhere.

I am using the list at Bootgod's site. The FW list is pretty bad. I know I did this a few years ago, but I'll double check it again to show you. They've had the same errors for a long time.

I counted 1080 games on FW's list. It has 1049 of the games from Bootgod's site. It's missing Crayon Shin-chan: Ora to Poi Poi - the DATACH version, which is the same as regular cart with the same name, right? I suppose that's a debatable one. It's also missing Family School - that game was sold to the public, I think.

There are several games which are confusingly listed on FW, like Super Gryzor instead of Super Contra. Also, Kage is incorrectly listed as Kage no Densetsu (that game is listed as Legend of Kage, the American name. in the list instead).

So that leaves 31 extra listings:

I saw the AVE Solitaire error myself, and haven't had time to investigate / compare with other Famicom lists to see about the other games. It looks like you did that in the above post, so thanks for that.

While the duplicate titles should be nixed, as well as the Punch Out gold cart (promo...though this one is a legend that is also fairly affordable, unlike Rockman 4 gold and stuff like that), I personally would count the other games as worthy of being "on the list". I see Kung Fu and Spartan X not being the same, much like Stadium Events.

Regarding Crayon Shin-chan: Ora to Poi Poi, actually I talked with Joe about these Datach games recently and had come to the conclusion that on the FW list, they are just viewed as variants of one another, since the game itself is the same. This can be seen as the other Datach carts are also not marked as being Datach carts on the list. So there is one entry for what some would claim to be two variants of the same game; however, I personally count them as separate entities, much as I do Aladdin Deck Enhancer games vs their standard cart counterparts.

It is fair to keep Tailor-Made on the list as well, imo. It and Safety Rally are not popular choices to have on a list of full set games, same with Kung Fu, Recca, etc, but I feel they belong. What are your thoughts on such titles? Since there are not a large number of people going for Famicom full sets, I enjoy chatting with another collector and hearing other opinions.

The second game is the Japanese version of River City Ransom. I'm kind of surprised that Bomberman 2 is still pretty cheap - it sells for $10-15 shipped by itself, and even less in lots. Seems like one of those titles that could rise given that the US version is worth a lot more. Although it does seem to be much more common in Japan.

The first game was $15.27 shipped, which makes it the 7th most expensive cart so far. It's a multi cart of DK Jr & DK Jr Math which was included with the Sharp Famicom TV. I wanted to get it out of the way since it's probably one of the rarer carts on the system. Now it isn't too expensive or sought after, but given how few of these tvs must have existed, I would imagine that there are fewer copies of this cart out there than almost every other release. Looking at the Sharp NES TV thread here on NA, it appears that the serial numbers are in a range of about 20,000. So if that's how many they sold in the US, could they really have sold more than that in Japan?

Die Hard is probably the biggest get there. Nice to finally own the cool Salamander cart as well. You can use 3 options rather than 2 in the US version. Joy Mech/Mecha Fight is in there as well. I don't really care for it too much, although I've never tried it with two players. Also got 3 Kunio games, to put me at 6/11 on the system, and Mario Bros. puts me at 13/14 pulse carts (missing Devil World).

I like the classic look of the pulse carts better. They're also easier to find. I'll just go for those, since I don't need multiples of each game. Although I just checked, and my copy of soccer is the picture version. Guess I'll have replace that eventually...

I got a great deal on Battletoads - $22. That's easily half the normal price.You know you're getting a good deal when the person who sold it makes a thread asking if they made a mistake. I was going to post in there, but I didn't know what I could say. I beat the game without too much trouble - the difficultly is definitely toned down from the NES version. Every stage has a few little changes, although it's still not easy.

Some of the other games are interesting, too. Project Q was one of those few games where I don't even think I'd seen the cart before. Not that it's valuable, just so obscure (it's a quiz show game). FF 1&2 gives me both multicarts on the system (the other: DK Jr. / DK Jr. Math). The two Kunio games means I now have 8/11 - still missing Basketball, the second Soccer, and Renegade. Wai Wai World 2 gets a decent amount of praise, but I think it's highly inferior to the first one. Way too many scrolling stages and simplified gameplay are not my idea of a good time.

On the other hand, Wai Wai World 1 is probably the best game you can start off a Famicom collection with. Not only is it a fun Japanese exclusive, it also stars plenty of other characters who have their own Japanese-only FC games (like King Kong 2, Getsu Fuuma Den, Ganbare Goemon). I can't say enough good things about that one.

The no-LED versions are rarer and more valuable than the originals (although unfortunately, they're not as cool looking). I got 'em both for cheap on Ebay.

So will you try to get the LED versions of those carts as well? I thought you were just going for one of each (for example only the pulse lines and not the picture versions as well). It just leaves me a bit confused, why grab the non-LED rarer Irem carts, if you could get the other version cheaper? Since there are only four of those (I also have Sqoon), I personally would just try to get both versions, but that is just me.

With Battletoads, I remember getting my copy for around $10 - $15 about a year ago. I feel bad for the other guy though. I wouldn't sell a bootleg Battletoads for less than $15, with the way that game is going for.

I actually used the Famicom version to train to beat the US version. Incredible deal on that cart. Its worth it to be able to play through the game, with less frustration... Although, now that I can beat the US version, it seems just... too easy.

I already own all the LED carts, I just bought these because they were so cheap (and because it's cool to own something rare). I'll probably use them as trade bait in the future. Maybe I'll try to get the other two first.

These five carts are probably the highlights:



Metal Storm is one of the few Famicom games that can hit $100 loose. I was able to grab it for $75 shipped in this lot with 3 DBZ games. The back sticker is a little flawed, but I'm not too concerned about it. I could tell just from the feedback scores that Waterclocker bid on it as well - there's only a handful of US sellers on Ebay with a lot of Famicom stuff, so it's easy to tell. I know he's sold copies of this game before for triple digits.

In terms of value, though, Sword Master may have been a bigger score. It's sold for over $50 loose three times in the last year. The NES version is right around $100, so that may explain the FC version's cost. Dragon Fighter is another one that will probably go higher. As NES prices rise, so do Famicom. Not to the same extent, but it definitely has an effect. Dragon Fighter, Metal Storm, Sword Master - those are all good examples.

I grabbed LaGrange Point complete for $26. Although this is a loose quest, I couldn't pass up getting the box/manual for so little extra. I'll probably trade or sell them at some point.

I now have a few FC peripherals as well! I picked up a DATACH system, along with my first of those carts (DBZ). I didn't get any cards with it, so I probably can't actually play it, but I wasn't going to anyway. I also got a Karaoke Studio mic, which is attached to the cart. Finally, I got a Japanese Vaus along with both Arkanoids. Unfortunately the dial seems a bit looser than my American Vaus. One thing that sucks about those controllers is that they aren't region free.

I have been getting into Famicom over the last couple of months buying exclusives that I can play without knowing Japanese, so it's a much smaller subset but with a few really expensive titles. I've probably been competing with you on some of these auctions. I know I had a snipe set up on that Metal Storm lot.

I just got an Adventures of Lolo cart myself but my copy doesn't work. I'm not playing it on an actual Famicom though, just through a convertor on my NES toploader. I have two convertors, one cheap standalone and the other harvested from an NES Pinball cart and the game doesn't work on either one. It has glitchy graphics and it loads a glitched level that can't be completed. I guess I'll have to buy another one. The FC Lolo games have different levels than the US games so I was really looking forward to having them in my collection but I guess it will have to wait until I get a replacement.

Over a year has passed since the last update. Since then, I've acquired another 71 games. Notable acquisitions are Bucky O'Hare, Hebereke, Solomon's Key 2, and this baby:





This would be the second add-on "Top Hit" cart for the Karaoke Studio peripheral (which is a game in and of itself). Even though the word rare is so overused these days, it's definitely worthy of that title. I know it was documented on Senseiman's blog that a CIB copy of it went for over $450 in January 2015. Loose would be a lot less surely, but I still felt very lucky to get it in a lot of 24 games for $75 shipped.

Of course, you can still debate amongst yourselves whether or not this should count as part of a set since it doesn't play by itself (you need the normal Karaoke Studio game which it plugs into). Either way, it's a nice addition. I still need Top Hit Vol. 1 which seems a lot more common.


In other news, I finally got Devil World after 600 games (seems kind of late, huh). That completes my 14/14 pulse line subset. I also finally got the last Famista game, the 1994 version. I played it a little bit and it did seem like they actually made some improvements after all those years. It even had voices. The early years seemed to be virtually the exact same game with no changes - not that 1994 plays differently, but they at least added some bells & whistles for once.


I've acquired many, many doubles recently, so I'm preparing for another forum auction in the near future. So you have that to look forward to (if you're in the US). I also have doubles of Metal Storm and Sword Master that I'd love to trade for carts of equal value.
