Hello everyone and welcome to the second round of the 2015 NintendoAge Weekly Contest Summer Tournament!  Round 1 served up some exciting scores and some great competition, and Round 2 will likely be just as good!  Your game for the second round will be Rush n’ Attack.  Here are the rules (Participants, please read the rules carefully for your tier to make sure you play by the correct rules.  Failure to play by the correct rules can result in your score being invalid).  Participants, please make sure to include your tier number when you post your score.  It will make it easier to calculate the final results at the conclusion of the contest.  Remember, the top 5 scorers will advance to the Finals and the bottom 2 scorers will be eliminated from the competition.  First off, here are the participants:

Tier 1

• 1 player only
• 1 life only
• Get as far in the game as possible
• Lowest score takes precedence in the event of a tie (ex. Two players get to Level 3.  Whoever has the lowest score at that point in the game takes precedence)
• Stop playing once you get to the final boss (Giant nuclear warhead)
• Furthest progression wins with lowest score taking priority

 
Tier 2

• 1 player only
• Play until you have two extra lives remaining (two daggers left on the screen)
• Get as far in the game as possible
• Lowest score takes precedence in the event of a tie (ex. Two players get to Level 3.  Whoever has the lowest score at that point in the game takes precedence)
• Stop playing once you get to the final boss (Giant nuclear warhead)
• Furthest progression wins with lowest score taking priority

 
Tier 3

• 1 player only
• Play until Life 0 (no daggers remaining on the screen).  You may not play any of the game on Life 0.  You must pause the game and take your picture.  Anyone suspected of playing any of the game on Life 0 will have their score disqualified.
• Get as far in the game as possible
• Lowest score takes precedence in the event of a tie (ex. Two players get to Level 3.  Whoever has the lowest score at that point in the game takes precedence)
• Stop playing once you get to the final boss (Giant nuclear warhead)
• Furthest progression wins with lowest score taking priority

The contest ends Sunday, 7/19/15 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

And if I advance to the finals I sincerely hope that the finals game has a life bar! I need a break from the one hit deaths,especially when you are playing by 1 life only rules!

I'd just try to find a copy at a local game shop as you'll be losing several days of play time waiting for it to get there if you buy it online.

Alas, Bimmy will be gone this week on vacation,
So I will leave you all with a lyrical narration.
Look at that gorgeous girl holding up that sign,
Man, I have to say that she is very, very fine.
That girl says that Bimmy isn’t a real name
But I say “Yeah it is, it’s in a video game.”
I tell her that I’m the host of a video game competition
And the participants are about ready to start their next mission.
The game this week will be Rush n’ Attack,
And if you don’t own it, feel free to use a Power Pak.
The object of the game is to stop the Russians,
But don’t be afraid because there will be no repercussions.
They want to launch a nuke and that would be bad,
So it’s time to go destroy it right on the launch pad.
Armed only with a knife, you jump right into the fight,
And swinging your blade, the Russians run away in quite a fright.
If you find a rocket launcher it will be your best friend,
So shoot those missiles up the Commies’ rear end.
The next thing I know the girl is starting to yawn,
So I quickly say “I’m sorry if my story started to drag on.”
She turns her back on Bimmy and decides to walk away.
I guess video game talk was not the thing to say.
I wish all of you the best of luck in round two,
For if you don’t put up a good score you will be saying adieu.
I’ll see you all in the final round,
Hey that’s when our top gamers will finally be crowned.

Bimmy was secretly one of the Fat Boy's back in the 80's. They never put him on screen though, because he was too skinny...

I bought one on ebay last night with the hopes that it will ship today and I'll have it around Wednesday. I don't really want to use an emulator either, but I guess I don't have much of a choice until my cart gets here.

I don't think I'm going to stick with the pacifist route for long. It was tough enough just getting through the first stage that way.

 

Thanks for the offer, but I just bought one from someone else.  I contacted different sellers and found one who assured me they would be able to ship it out today.

Do you think 19k is near the lowest possible for L1? I got frustrated trying to get lower than 20k last night. I hate games that use up to jump. I'm hit or miss vaulting attackers.
 

Yes a game I just beat for nintendoage this year

I had to kill a few of the jumpers and maybe 2-3 running enemies, so the minimum is probably in the 18k range.

 

Hmm. Since I'm in teir 2 and go until 2 lives are left, it's hard to decide wether to go pacifist and possibly not get as far, or kill everyone so I can get an extra life from points which would make me get farther into the game.

I played this for the first time last night and thought the same exact thing.

I literally LOL'd the first time I died. My GF look at me crazy and said "why are you laughing you died right away".

When I told her the rules she started laughing, followed by "let me try". Gotta love that.
