There's a program called FamiTracker that alot of people enjoy using. You build your own .nsf files out of it. There is also NerdTracker2, which I prefer since I am used to it. It's extremely outdated, though. Most likely you will be more comfortable with FamiTracker.

If you know 6502, you can try developing your own music engine and build it with an assembler. This info is a bit hard to understand, but check this page if you're interested in designing your own music engine:

Make sure to post whatever you do, we're always interested to see things people are working on!

for all you mac users (or *inux folk) there's ppmck, which enters the notes in yr favorite text edit program (vi rulez- suck it emacs!1!!!!1!!!) and then compiles into an nsf file. famitracker is a fun easy GUI to kick some 8bit musical ass, but it's proprietary, which is mean. and short sighted. and cruel.

somewhere buried in the brewery topic is my latest 8bit project with ppmck using only the basic NES channels. you can do a lot with just those.

Probably the fact that Famitracker isn't nice to those of us who actually want to use SOUND EFFECTS in our games.

Is that with one of the trackers? If so, that's way better than the first tune I made! hehe
