My beloved CRT's days are numbered. I have to find a new one and I'd like to avoid what I normally do (random CRT at Savers or Goodwill) and get one that I will be able to use for a while. My random CRT's from thrift stores either burn out or start soundiung like a damn wind turbine. Ive been looking into Sony Trinitron. I have seen countless posts on retro game facebook groups about how this is the greatest TV for retro games. There is also a lot of debate on a flat screen vs a bubble style screen. What is the difference in picture quality? Obviously I'd want to grab a 32 bc I believe that's the biggest size for a Trinitron without going completely overboard. (my game room has a 50 inch flat screen so I dont want a HUGE one)

So I found a Trinitron 24 inch on craiglist. It looks like a good size and I have a fairly small room. Its also one town away (5 mins) and $15. Just need some opinions on whether this is what I am looking for in terms of brand and model (Sony Trinitron) or if I should hold off and wait for a 32 inch one to pop up locally. Any input is appreciated. Thanks

Something about a bubble screen really gives it that retro feel.

There was just a Finders Keepers thread today about a Trintron and the poster absolutely loves the picture quality.

This is the CRT I use for everything A/V & S-Video:

http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-20A...

I use a 14" Sony PVM for RGB

I have a small room also so the 20" is perfect imo. (and not too heavy)

I actually really like the look of that Toshiba. It's a good size too. How do NES/SNES/64 games look on it? Sounds good too? I may keep my eye out for a similar model to this one now.

They look great. I have my NES through AV and N64 through S-Video (my SNES is RGB to my PVM)

Picture is crisp and there are menu options to tweak to your liking. It sounds pretty good for a CRT, it won't blow your mind since they're just average small speakers but it has a headphone jack so you can easily connect most audio systems (I use two Cerwin Vega PC Speakers)

I have a 27" trinitron and I've been very happy with the quality for a crt. I feel it's worth getting for on the cheap.

I used to have a Trinitron and everything on there looks great. Idk if you've thought about using an hdmi upscaler to convert the signal from your old consoles into something you can plug into your 50" flat screen. I just hooked my system up that way recently (I've got an NES, SNES and VCR) and everything looks phenomenal. It may be an option for ya

Thats a great idea, it never crossed my mind. It might seem weird but I kinda like playing on a dedicated retro TV. Plus Im a lazy ass and I like to play Tetris for a few hours a night and watch TV on my other TV at the same time. lol

generally try to find a sony or Philips with as many connection as possible but still is a CRT. i used to have an HD/EDTV with 1080i that had an HDMI 2 component 3 composite and a single S video input. all though Philips later SD tv's has a lower quality screen than an older TV their HD crt's are pretty good! ive heard many people like sony's Trinitron TV. its up to you. i have alot of console so i prefer alot of connections.
