Man, you guys are getting really high scores. I don't know what I'm missing... pretty much consistently getting around 650,000-700,00. I got a double perfect on Balrog yesterday and just broke 700,000 which I felt was a pretty good run and my best score. Are you guys going to round 3 every time? More perfects I guess? I've been mainly using Ken, but have messed around with Chun and Blanka.
I dont remember the exact count. I think I had 3-4 perfects in the first 7 normal fights. Might have been 1 more. I had double perfect vs balrog and got a perfect vs 1 round of vega. I normally get 600-700 too. Just had 1 really good run through.

Yeah, those three perfects would definitely make a big difference. Nice run through. Perfect on Vega is crazy!

Meanwhile I am sitting at a 490K score when I got to Sagat at last, and he perfected me thanks to high tiger shots, which I have no idea how I will beat with Zangief. Jumping over them and trying to attack only leads me to being hit by said tiger shots.
I am really rusty at this one and have a long, long way to go.
But at least I got a perfect at Vega with Zangief and now have a clear idea of how to fight him to get two perfects in a row.

For me it's just putting it all together. I just had a great run (probably 750K+ ) ruined by Vega. I had him in the corner and he somehow hit me with a jump kick on the way up and again on the way down (same fucking kick) making me dizzy and then destroyed me with his roll. Probably the cheapest thing I've seen yet. I am definitely getting better at getting perfects throughout the first set of guys, Balrog, and Sagat. Vega is really the only pain and I'm at least getting better at him, but still likely under 50/50.

The dragon punch NOT knocking guys down is probably the biggest programming error in this game. Basically makes the heavy DP useless and you're just asking to get hit regardless of connection. Great anti-air, but a complete joke otherwise.

None of this would be happening if we were playing Turbo instead.
But no, let's go with broken vanilla SF2.

meh, SF II is fine. Personally I like super street fighter II the best over SF II and turbo. I dont need the over the top speed to make it fun or playable.

Even Super would be preferable. There were lots of balance changes (like Vega no longer having that ridiculous, over the top, infinite priority jump kick) that make the game much more enjoyable.
SF II is fine and a good game, but it is fairly broken in many aspects, making it poor for a high score competition and for tournaments.

I feel the pain that you guys are having with Vega. I've been using Chun Li and Vega is as far as I've been able to get without continuing.

I might do well against Vega on the first round and then I can barely get in a hit against him on subsequent rounds.

Played a couple more rounds and definitely getting a hang of Vega. Even got a perfect against him one round. Sagat seems to be all or nothing. Either perfect or close to it or he blanks me. Bison is pretty much the same although more random than Sagat. Once I get a score over 700K I'm moving on to GnG for a while. I don't think I'll be touching Quests score unless I find a trick with Chun or get super lucky on some of the last four. I really hate getting a mutual hit when you're about to kill them. This game is so set out to ruin your perfect round. AI pretty much always goes to a power move (i.e. damage when blocked) when they're one hit from getting perfect KO'd.

Updated my score a bit.
I am getting to Sagat almost every time, unless Guile tells me to go home and be a family man.
But Sagat and his tiger shots will be a tough one to beat.

I also need to improve against Balrog and Vega so that I can get more perfects there.

It is stationary, has a poor recovery time and is vulnerable to sweeps and low tiger shots. It is pretty much useless against Sagat. I seldom use it against any opponent save for Vega when he jumps on the background.
If I could move while doing it, it would be of a lot more use against Sagat.

Score update. I finally got lucky and beat Vega. I even got a perfect in the second round after he kicked my ass in the first round.

@BrockLanders

Before doing anything stupid again, I just ask.

No matter playing on a keyboard, level 3 is so easy that I can compete with the scores being published so far.
Before taking pictures and so on, I want to be sure about this competition format.

I'm not a big gamer, a top gamer, or whatever. I'm just very used to some games, which are the few ones I can play decently, like Super Off Road (ok, this one the NES version, but the SNES was not too different), or Street Fighter II, or Final Fantasy III (US). Games I used to have == games I can play, and I care about play.

So, two questions, probably stupid:

1. if I play this game, get a good score which ranks within the best, take a picture of my monitor with scores, send a zip file with all screen shots stage by stage, will I be believed that I did not cheat? I mean no save states, and so on, or it will feel like doubtful?

2. If I don't play anything else later next months (unless something else I can play pops up), it is this like trolling in the competition? I mean, I would reduce the points to the next ranked players get, and so make some tiny difference in the season ranking, and someone may lose the season title or a position because of that.

If few words: it's a little while now that I'm on NA, I think to have a good reputation (and do not want to lose it), I'm a fair player, I like to play SFII, I can only play on emulator, I think it would be fun to take part just in this specific month of the contest just about this game, because I think I have a little chance to rank decently, and I'd like to know if this is welcome.

Please let me know.

@quest4nes
believe it or not, I can't edit my posts with this specific OS and obsolete browser.
I can only write stuff in the box on the bottom of the page in vintage version, or post only images without text.
The pop up text box does not work. I cannot even quote people. So, I'm, of course, perfectly fine with deleting if that post is wrong, but a mod has to do so. Sorry about that.

By the way, also for my records, I'll have to have score written in a post, picture in the next.

I'm not a mod, but... You don't need the zip file, only a picture of your score along with your name. Emulators are allowed so it's okay as long as you don't use save states. It's the honor system. Cheating is often possible even with real hardware.

^__ Ok, I played a further game right after the one I posted about earlier, improved a bit the score (587400), and I'm now updating the post above with the picture I toke. As soon as I understand how to uninstall SeaMonkey and install a recent version of Mozilla in this silly OS, I'll update the score and use a bigger font too. Funny thing is that to install ZSNES was the easiest thing ever, update a web browser instead seems impossible.

I think I will be able to improve the score anyways by the end of the month.

Both scores made with ChunLi, playing with a keyboard. I'm unsure what other info I'm welcome to share about such games I played.
Well, it was fun to waste a couple of hours playing a game which I was not playing since a long time.

No need to apologize, as far as I'm concerned. Yeah, it's a competition, but it's a friendly competition. We're not betting money or anything like that. If someone wants to toss out some pointers here and there, I don't see the harm.

Ok, I discovered that I can write in editing box if I select the "source" tab. So, what I do, delete that old post or not?

I could find a bit more of time to play another couple of quick games, score in bold and updated above, broken the 600k limit, Pics uploaded too.
