Ratings key:
10 - One of your very favorite artists of all time.
9 - Killer fucking band.  Or artist.
8 - Great sound, great songs, great albums.
7 - Very good, but not quite great.
6 - Pretty good.  More than a few songs you like.  You'd entertain the thought of seeing them live if they were in the area.  Or still alive.
5 - They're okay, but maybe not something you'll go out of your way to listen to.
4 - Meh.  There may be a song or two, or an album that you dig, but you'd rather listen to other stuff.
3 - Not very good.  You will more likely than not turn the station if they come on the radio.
2 - Not your cup of tea at all.  Some people like this, but you are not one of them.
1 - Horrible in every way.
0 - In the running for worst artist/musician of all time.  You would rather take a cheese grater to your face than listen to this.

Current Standings:
7.84 - Michael Jackson
6.83 - Journey
6.66 - Prince
6.33 - Eminem
6.09 - Weezer
6.02 - Daft Punk
5.57 - Ghost
5.31 - Madonna
5.00 - Lady Gaga
4.66 - Avenged Sevenfold
4.53 - Bruno Mars
4.33 - Linkin Park
3.66 - Babymetal
3.63 - My Chemical Romance
0.88 - Lil Xan

5 sums it up nicely for me. A few songs where if they come on I'll sing along to the chorus, but I'm not exactly listening to her albums front to back.

I give Madonna from '83-89 a solid 8/10 honestly.....Like A Prayer was bad-ass.....Borderline, Lucky Star, Holiday, Dress You Up, those are all classics and the synth lines are pretty damn good.....plus she brought Sasha Baron Cohen to the mainstream.....and you know damn well we are all Material Girls....

Not many pop solo artists out there who can say they dominated the charts for two decades, that is no small feat.
Even Michael Jackson you wouldn't say that about.

Additional guilty pleasure: Coming home from work like this

Ignoring the fact that she didn't write her own songs, and was more concerned with shock than quality material, she just isn't (wasn't) that good of a singer.

Her songwriters deserve some praise though, some catchy stuff.

Even Barry Manilow didn't write "I write the songs"....writing your own music is no easy feat, I'm not sure what percentage of successful artists out there could say they wrote the majority of their stuff

Man did she age rapidly after the '95 MTV VMAs though....she was still really cute at that time, and then just seemed to turn overnight

I know nothing about Madonna, and didn't do any real research, but to what extent is that true?

I didn't do any research either, and I had heard of the songwriting credits. However, with big pop stars, I always take those with a grain of salt (see: Elvis)

"fake news", I'll call BS on myself unless I bother to do more research

The early stuff was good then and it’s still good having aged well but later material is not appealimg. I gave her a 6 on the strength of the early stuff . However I can totally see how younger people who didn't go through that time would give her a lower score

Re her looks going downhill after 1995, well, google tells me that’s the year she got pregnant and having a couple kids does that to some women.
