Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the Weekly Contests!  We only have two weeks left until tournament time, so the competition should become very fierce down the stretch.  Get ready for some puzzle fun this week!  But first, I have a poem for you all this week, so I hope you will all enjoy it:

Alas, it is the start of a new week,
So for the new contest, I shall give you a sneak peek.
It is a puzzle game with pieces blue, green, red, and gray
And you need to make them all go away.
As you play, time will be ticking down.
And if you're good enough, you may win this week's scoring crown.
If you run out of time on the clock
There's no need to get mad and throw a rock.
Just toss the controller on the floor of your den,
And then pick it up and start over again.
The idea is to get a very high score,
Which will make you want to play this game even more.
This game is loads and loads of fun,
Which means this week you probably won't get out and see much sun.
So, let us make haste
For we have no more time to waste.
It's time for your old pal Bimmnic
To introduce you to Puzznic.

.....Why do I hear crickets chirping?  I guess it's time for me to cue the rules:

  • Play Puzznic Mode
  • Play until Game Over (after you use your two retries)
  • You must start the game at level 1-1
  • Take your picture when you are given the option to continue and it shows you a password
  • Highest score wins
  • GENRE: Puzzle

The contest ends Sunday, 6/21/15 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

Updated the rules slightly to further clarify when everyone's scoring run will end.

Yes, absolutely! If I somehow managed a super high score, I'll probably start taking pics at the end of each level to cover my ass.

Lol.  Yes, I flip it up because it bugs me while playing.  If you enhance the picture, and reverse the image, you'll see my name!

I was actually going to say during the last contest that if you look closely enough at it, you can still read "bertsampson" backwards through the paper. Having that awesome Sharp TV doesn't hurt either!

The puzzles for each stage never change so once you solve a particular puzzle you've got it in the bag as long as you remember how you solved it and don't make a careless mistake.

Seems like a missed opportunity to not try out the Gravnic Mode for this weeks competition. I remember this game being played in last years 2nd half contest not too long ago.

Do the controls seem to have a bit of lag on your TV? I couldn't get the timing down on the moving platform in 2-5 even when I used both of my retries on the same level. I thought the issue was either my USB controller or my laptop, but since you mentioned seeing if your TV has a game mode, I was wondering if you were having the same problem.

I got my NES back from the shop yesterday, so I'll stop by my local game store and see if they have a copy. Usually the lag on my laptop is tough to notice, but it can be a problem on games that require perfect timing.

Do you have a CRT TV around? I was able to find a copy at the local game shop and the controls are much more responsive using my NES on a CRT.
