Some of you may know about some of the cut content, but haven't seen it action. Well, the peeps at The Movie Archive has found an extended rough cut version of the film that's about 15 minutes longer.

From what I'm hearing, some avid fans amoung the community are hard at work trying to remaster these and make them availble.

This is neat as I can finally see some deleted content that was only well known in scripts, toys, cards, etc.

Can't wait 'till they've unearth the part where that one guy gets de-evolved into ooze (which I've been reassured is in this cut)

I hate to be that guy, but this movies was complete garbage. I can't handle another 15 minutes of it.

Thank God my parents didn't take me to the theaters to see this and only rented it from the hotel VHS rentals one summer vacation.

At least Street Fighter was so bad it was good. I can't say the same about this movie.

^ You can be that guy, it's totally fine. In fact, a lot of people hate the movie, and understandably so.

I was around 10 years old when I seen it, and the only thing that upsetted me was that Luigi didn't have a full mustache and the Goombas where a bit different. lol It was the 'Blade Runner-esq" aesthetics and the ideas and props that I enjoied.

Thanks for sharing! On a similar note, awhile back I came across this webcomic that serves as an unfinished sequel. I hold out the hope that they might finish it someday.

Are they extra drunk in the deleted scenes?

The lesson to be learned here is that drunk actors do a worse job than actors who are doing lines of cocaine.

lol, don't think there's any bloopers or anything being that it's a rough cut, but that'd be funny to see a scene cut because "the actors where too drunk". hahaha

I thought I had read that Bob Hoskins and John Leguzamo (sp  ) were notoriously drunk throughout filming due to both hating the script and directing.

To be fair, John Leguizamo has had some rough luck in his early career: first his role as a henchman in Die Hard 2 is drastically cut because he was shorter than the director realized, and this. I'd drink too if my first roles were like that.

Yeah, they needed to take the edge off, so they'd do shots between takes iicr. I don't think anyone blames them. lol

Not all was bad, he did date Samantha Mathis during the time of the movie's production.

Leguizamo did get to play some good roles later on in his career. I really liked his Aurelio character in the John Wick movies.

Man, I always really enjoyed watching this movie as a kid. I remember the first time I saw it in the cinema I was a little disappointed that it had very little to do with Mario, either the games or the cartoon series, but I was excited whenever I spotted the references such as Bob bomb and Yoshi, etc. Then after that my dad taped it off the TV and it was one of my taped movies I would rewatch over and over, along with Ghostbusters 1 and 2! It's still a great watch, just due to the dystopian style and some of the humorous performances. Hoskins and Leguizamo, Dennis Hopper, the Koopa cousins, all turn in interesting and funny performances in this film, I think.

But, yeah, not actually saying it's a good film, but in its own way it is very special, and worth a watch just to see if you can get something out of it.

Would love to see this movie pop up in an MST3K episode.
