Hey everyone, I'm Aquanistic. My real name is Alex, currently 20. Other than just play games, I also play their themes on piano (I've got a few older recordings on YouTube). I first started collecting after the Wii came out. I thought that the Virtual Console would be great. My parents would never let me own a video game system before the Gamecube, and I was a huge fan of the 64 and the NES. I figured that Nintendo would do the right thing and re-release
all of the games for these old systems, and maybe even retro controllers that would plug into the bottom of the Wii-mote. Nope. I waited and waited for games like Goldeneye 007, and they never came. So, I finally went and bought a 64 myself. I ended up buying more and more games, bringing back memories along the way. Then I bought one of those Retroports - Wii to NES - so that I could play the NES games with the original controller on the Wii. I got some controllers off of eBay, and then I was set. I could play Super Mario Bros. with the original controller. Sweet! But, you can always get more authentic. So then I got an old Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt cartridge off of craigslist for $1. I put it in a shadow box and put it on the wall. Eventually, I decided to go the whole way - I found an NES on craigslist, and got it for $5. After purchasing the original cords off eBay, I thought I was set. For the first time in
years I put an NES game into an NES and pushed it down. The magic moment. I pressed the power button and *blink blink blink*. Dang it. I took apart the console and cleaned the thing, as well as the cartridge. Second try: the two titles scrolled across the screen - Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt. Wow. Too cool. I would play that game every Friday for quite a few weeks. But by then the collection bug had bit me. I started getting other NES games, starting with 'Mario 3', then Metroid and Mega Man. Before I knew it, I owned all of the Nintendo consoles, and an Atari 2600 with several games for each. I love video games, and I believe the old ones are just as good, if not better than the newest ones out.
Sorry for the long post. I posted my collection to this thread, if you're interested.
Thanks for the resources you've provided me so far! I just found the site today, and I found the pdf download of the newsletter very interesting, especially the "Moving a Collection" article. I hope to stick around for a while!
