Walmart earlier this week marked down the price of the Asteroids/Centipede mini-cabinets from $300 to $75. If you can find one in-store, these cabinets can be used for cheap parts to make your own MAME cabinet.

Yes, this discount is in-store only. Anyone buying the Asteroids cab with the intention of playing the bundled games, the spinner on those cabs are garbage. There is a cheap mod however that will improve the feel quite a bit:

Damn what a steal. I have 3 of them and they all play amazingly. I thought $150 was a steal when I got one, so $75 is even more a great steal. Guess I'll go for the Centipede since it is the only one I don't have.

I got one too! Thanks for the tip. My Wal-Mart had a few others on sale as well. I saw a Street Fighter one, Galaga and Galaxian, and a Taito cab with Space Invaders

With a little more searching, looks like the deep discount on these is to clear stock for a just-released "deluxe edition" that combines both sets of games (and a few more) into a single cabinet.
(looks like it has a spinner AND a trackball, plus the necessary buttons)

For the space-constrained, might be worth waiting for the new one to eventually get cheaper.

We have five Walmarts in about a 40 minute drive.

First Walmart, Brickseek said 2 Asteroids / 1 Centipede. Actual: 0.
Second, shows 0 of either.
Third, shows Limited Supply of each. Actual: 0.
Fourth, Shows 3 Asteroids / Limited Centipede. Called 3 times, rings and rings for Electronics. No answer ever.
Fifth, Shows 4 Asteroids / 2 Centipede. Actual: 0.

My Walmarts suck. Truly a YMMV.

Edit: Also, if you plan on calling Walmart, the SKU on Brickseek does not show up as anything in their handhelds for some reason. Give them the UPC instead.

Mine just had the asteroids cab (said limited stock on centipede, but they couldn't find the one "in stock") which was marked clearance for $150, but rang up as $75 as advertised.

If only the Capcom cab with Ghouls and Ghosts/Final Fight was on that good of a sale!

I bought the StreetFighter one, I was super excited to get it and the screen didn't work right. It was right when they came out and they told me it would take something like three weeks to get the screen replaced. No thanks, returned it to GameStop all built and they said it wasn't the first that came back. Was super bummed because it was a cool cab.

That’s how I got to knowing it was cheaply made.. and as someone that’s 6’3”, there’s just no way I could justify that purchase at any price.

Just came back and got an Asteroids one for $75. Centipede wasn't in stock. Bought it for our daycare center since we have a lot of older kids for the summer. Hope they enjoy it!
All the others are still ringing at $299.

It is crazy as they have all of them at the price of $299, so the only way to know for sure is either through word of mouth/post (like this one) or using your Walmart app to price check it.
