There is basically no sound effects with out the extra audio in Gimmick.  No jump sound, no star throwing/bouncing sound, etc.

This is not Kevtris's schematic but hopefully it helps.

So your saying this NTSC prototype is completely finished? If so I say this is the only way to go.

100%, and Dream is offering it up for a very fair price.  Someone should pony up the cash and go that route, but then they'd have to worry about what boards to put it on.

We have ntsc-j Gimmick!, that is sufficient in my book, though it would be cool to know if there were any differences (but not 500$ cool..for one person to pay at least). The ntsc proto probably doesn't contain the extra sound, because of our hardware limitation. The usa ntsc version is just a gimped version, with POSSIBLE differences that's cool for sake of history. As long as Dream has it dumped and preserved, there's really no need in reproing it when I come to think of it (other than that america finally gets their version, but what about the audio? Gimmick! sounds SOOO much better..).

...but seriously, anyone wan't to help me with the last two component's I need to know? Really want to make this audio mod. Is the capacitor and resistor value on scuccis board the same as kevtri's wrote earlier in the nesdev thread for his design? Is the resistor a 1N4148? That's all I need to know before I can order parts... Really want to build this thing (even if I have the PowerPak, lol).

Does anyone have a list of differences Between the Jap and Euro versions of Gimmick?
Also how does the US proto version compare to these two released versions.
I appreciate the work done by people to get the Jap version working and sounding on US consoles but I would prefer to have the US version as it was intended to be.

I have to agree with you. All we need is 10 people to invest $100, $50 towards the rom and $50 towards 2 batman boards and 2 Mr. Gimmick Labels and the labor. So for a $100 you could get 2 games and the digital rom, my guess is that you could sell one of your games for $60 easily. So your game would cost you $40. Have a limited run of 20 its that easy. I got my $100 right now all we need is 9 more.

Don't forget shipping, labels, ROMS, time, and a sound chip and a custom board for it, or a hackjob on some protoboard. This game won't be any $60 repro. Sorry. But it'd be worth the extra price I think, it's a great game.

Agreed with everything except the sound chip.  I'm assuming the US version won't require the chip (and will have worse audio than it's Japanese counterpart), but everything else you mention is point on.

Sounds like a neat project that would be worth the investment.

I think it'd be worth it to do a run of the NTSC J boards with the extra sound, then do a bigger run for people who can't/won't modify their NES's to play it, which they can still have the full game and "full" music. But the NTSCJ might be hard to make the mapper carts in bulk, so it might be too expensive.

Whoever wants to do this can, I'll be up for a copy possibly.

It would be easier to buy the Famicom cart instead. I'd put $40 towards a dump of this game if anyone's serious about this, though.

only problem is that I've only seen 2 Gimmick famicom on ebay and they think it's the same price as the pal version (~$300) I thought this was a $50-$75 cart only for the famicom?

If you have any GBA signage or kiosk I would be interested. Please send me a PM because I'm only here about once a month now but I'm still VERY interested in large system signage or small playable kiosks related to the GBA.

I feel that if the proto was ever to be released it should be as it was meant to be if released commercially for our region. Sure anyone can dump a Jap version alter the title etc.. and make a cart using an audio secondary board but that makes it a hack.

How about a mod so that the PAL version works on the NTSC NES that would be nice now that I have a PAL Gimmick.

The game was a hack to put on PAL with muffed audio, so which one would be the true "hack?" Plus the Jap version is NTSC. It's a pick your poison situation because neither will be 100% right. Go for the Japanese version. That's the way this game is ment to be played.
