Aaaand my hatred for these types of auctions is reenforced...
Yeah. Half of me wants these guys to get as much as possible for this for their hard work, the other hates the fact that its " It could end at any time but i am going to let it go as long as possible to extract every cent I can from it"
Either way, the guys that make these deserve the money, next time I am just going to wait way more time to bid.
That's why I'm saying there needs to be a cap set on the auction. Like, it will end in the month of March. Something to hold the sellers accountable. I wonder if there is pre-determined time set or if it just ends when the seller feels like theres enough money.
Don't get me wrong. These guys deserve every penny. I just think we could improve on this auction format a little.
I'd love to hear what ideas you have. I don't see how saying "it will end in the month of March" would help. People would assume it would last until the end of March, and then wait until the last minute to bid. If we ended it early, they would get upset that we implied that it would be running until the end of March.
I agree, it is certainly not a perfect auction style, but I honestly don't know how to change it to better anything.
What are people's main gripes? That they don't get a second chance to bid?
Always thought a clever way would be have a "reserve" in mind for the last copy. You don't have to disclose it.
To couple that idea, you would also disclose that if there is not a bid made for X hours (lets say X is 24 hours), then the auction ends.
So, the auction ends in 2 ways.
1. Reserve met for last copy
2. Time expires from last bid.
That would at least let the bidders know that there is a definite line in the sand.
