Nice score arnpoly! I've been able to beat level 20 just a couple of times, and there is one particular level layout (depending on the RNG) that I find to be easier then level 18 or 19...

Thanks to everyone for the pointers. They're not doing me a lick of good though.

I'm half expecting this to be a bait score for us to put our guard down, then you'll post your real score of 800k at the last minute tomorrow

I'm not doing good. I never really put any time into this game and I don't have any idea how to set up more than one combo.

It's not too bad once you get the hang of it.

I just updated my score and I'm exhausted.
I am not capable of a higher score.

Thanks to everyone who gave tips.

No issues with it whatsoever! I'm glad he's back and I wish he'd unretire. Would love to see krunch back playing in these too.

I'll be here with bells on once the next year starts! Could only get 120,000 in Dr, Mario on Hi this time. I've lost my touch...

I'll try to get a few more runs in today, but I doubt I can top that. Great score!

I wish I could compete on this game. Still going to continue though. Maybe I'll get lucky and 'achieve the glow'.

253,500  (end of level 13)

The last two viruses were ones that I had meant to take out very early in the level (high and to the left) but had a mis-drop and had to mine out 90% of the level with sideways kills.

It ended up being pretty brutal.

I would like to get a solid game in where I break into the 300's, but old habits from Tetris are dying hard and I keep getting gummed up in the level 14 range.

Definitely a game I wish I'd given more attention to as a kid, since it is definitely as addictive as Tetris, and I've been having pretty severe "Tetris-effect" all week, even though I'm only getting to play one or two games per day.
First off, good score man.

Secondly, how do you like the GCW Zero? It looks pretty nice but I don't know much about it

Generally, I like it.

I need to open it up and clean out the buttons, though.

I had to remap A and B to the X and Y buttons, since one of them had started to stick.
Probably a function of being a portable and getting pocket lint, though, more than a mechanical issue with the device.

It does pretty much any system you'd expect to emulate on a handheld, though.
Has a couple of DOS emulators, too, though I haven't fully configured them, yet.

I gather that some of the larger Android-based handhelds give you more bang for the buck, but Dingoo Linux seems to have a pretty solid following, and the device was made with the "correct" native resolution (320x240) to accomodate any of the vintage systems without stretching or scaling, which is a big plus, IMO.

Quick Summary:  if you can find it on sale through a place like Think Geek, I wouldn't talk you out of it.  Mine gets a lot of use.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that Round 2 of the tournament will go live some time after midnight tonight since I have to work the rest of the day. Since we won't know who advances to Round 2 until after the Round 1 contest ends, I will extend Round 2 into next Monday so everyone can have a full 7 days to play the next game.

-------------------------

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Latest Purchase(s): Snow Brothers

"Wait...Bimmy and Jimmy??  How'd they make a mistake like this!?  Bimmy isn't even a real name!"

It's so slow, it takes forever to get to the high levels. Then they give you absolutely nothing and you die.

Here is my final score.  I was at my in-laws since Wednesday, so I had plenty of time to sit on my computer and just practice it inbetween us doing stuff.  Got pretty lucky with this one, chaining a few good combos together by luck, and with what pieces were falling.  Got killed pretty quick on level 22 though.

Curious to see if BriGuy82 posts another score. As is, there's only a 300 point difference between us. Stage 19 was my roadblock, just couldn't clear it.  Despite being my highest score, I didn't clear a singe virus on Stage 19 in this run.

If egaskrad or billtownsparty don't post a score, all you need to do is post a picture and you'll advance since only one person is eliminated in this round. Every round actually.

I'm gonna try and play again one more time hopefully. Got called into work 4 times this weekend so it was hard for me to put a decent run together...

Oh well, only got to put in one game today, but I bumped my score up from the 230k-range to 250k-range. (set off a 50k pt combo in level 7 or 8... it was gratifying)

This game mind end up in my normal rotation now, since I can see some of the interest in it that I'd never really given a chance.
But I think I did respectably for never having played the game prior to a few days ago, and really only getting in a couple games per day, at best.

Hopefully that will be good enough to hang on for the semi-finals...

I'm not sure if I'll play much more if any. Yesterday I scored 380,700 missing my best by only 1200. I can get 300K almost every time at this point.

Nice.  Clearly consistent pure survival is really key, and one week of play time was not enough for me to overcome my Tetris-bias. (where surivival isn't worth all that much...it's all about the big kills).

For me to be at 250k by the end of stage 13, I have a feeling I was really only a couple decently played stages away from the 300 mark, but it just wasn't meant to be this week
