BEHOLD!

Oregon Trail on the NES

Very much just a tease, not much game in there yet. I've been trying to adapt and draw graphics similar to the apple2e version for use on the nes. I've tested some ideas etc, but the screens were starting to come together pretty nice, so I thought I'd share. May have to try CHR RAM with this one, as the graphics, while basic, are taking a lot of room. The original game has a lot of full screen cut scenes, so definitely need more than the standard 8k graphics space..

Whoah man thats really cool! Really looks just like the old PC oregon trail so far. I wish you the best of look with this project (I can understand its alot to tackle).

Back recently when I was playing through GUN for the PS2, my brother had made a comment to me that someone should really do a new game for Oregon Trail. I told him, someone is, for the NES. Sure its not what he was proposing it be like, talking high end console game. I remember somewhat enjoying this game back in junior high school, this project certainly has a little of my interest to see how it turns out.

Might want to check out the Color Dreams mapper too. 32KB PRG banks, 8KB CHR banks. Don't know if theres any benefits over UNROM for you but then you wouldn't have loading times for graphics.
