Thank you Jeremy.

Oh, and I'm fully sure you'll step up your game Randy, I can feel it already, me having to play it yet again even better, not just to top my own score, but your's which'll probably make things difficult for me like with Marble Madness, I'm just awaiting that. Probably come back on later or tomorrow and find my score has been beaten.

Beat Snake Rattle 'n Roll a little while ago, not intending to, it just happened. Was only playing to try out a few things to increase my score as well as practice some of those harder jumps in level 10, I just kept playing to the end basically out of habit, I was already near, may as well finish it. Ate the minimum amount of nibbly pibblies to exit each stage, used a continue, didn't have a high score, afterall, not a serious game, just messing around.

Tried out the first stage again after that to see what my score difference would be if I managed to get everything, and so I was able to increase my score from approximately 50000, to 58000, so that'll be a big help next time I go for a record. Can also get a couple thousand more on level 2 using the same method. And can get probably up to 10000 more points in level 6, time permitting of coarse. I also realized that in level 9 I was missing picking up a couple thousand points there because I was taking a shortcut every time, but won't be from now on, gotta use every point opportunity they give if I want to win this one. So next I get the chance I'm going to be attempting to reinforce my lead position.

Got a problem, I reset the score. Damn. I hate games where the score loops back to zero again. Got a pic that is worthless pretty much now, thankfully have a video to back it up. I don't even know what the highest score was before it reset, 999.999, 999.990, or 999.900, or something else maybe, knew I should've kept better track of how many points I was racking up.

Snake Rattle 'n Roll
09/03/09
9th game: beat it with 5 deaths/no continues used (had 5 lives left + all my continues), score 660.150
1st death in level 4 (fell on some spikes)
2nd death in level 10 (fell on spikes between the slanted ledges of the ice mountain)
3rd death in level 10 (same place as previous death)
4th death in level 10 (slipped off icy slopes at the top of the mountain)
5th death in level 10 (missed the door when I jumped to it)

Overall a better game played, 1 less death than my previous best, but unfortunately somehow had a lower score.

Snake Rattle 'n Roll
09/03/09
11th game: beat it with 14 deaths/no continues used (had 1 life left + all my continues), score 999.900? + 112.600 (score loops)
1st death in level 5 (slipped off ledge near vertical moving flying carpet)
2nd death in level 5 (missed a jump to the flying carpet after the vertical one)
3rd death in level 6 (misjudged a jump along the multiple waterfalls while sped up by the wind-up power-up)
4th death in level 6 (immediately after my previous death I get squished by a falling bell)
5th death in level 9 (intentionally let the timer run out in favor of getting more score off of the ice foot)
6th death in level 9 (intentionally let the timer run out in favor of getting more score off of the ice foot)
7th death in level 9 (fell from last long slope while trying to avoid a rolling snowball)
8th death in level 10 (slipped off of first ledge at the start of the level)
9th death in level 10 (intentionally let the timer run out in favor of getting more score off of the ice foot)
10th death in level 10 (jumped over the edge of the last slopes)
11th death in level 11 (intentionally let the timer run out in favor of getting more score off of the ice foot), score 967.000
12th death in level 11 (intentionally let the timer run out in favor of getting more score off of the ice foot), score 028.000 (looped the score)
13th death in level 11 (accidentally ran into ice foot's heel), score 089.200
14th death in level 11 (pushed the wrong direction on the d-pad accidentally when going toward the UFO, was reaching for my camera), score 112.600

Well, used what I learned from my previous game, and was able to max out the score in the game, problem is, it rolled over at a certain point, hate that, don't even have a pic of the top score because of this, only video can back this one up.

Wow!  Since you've rolled it over and won the contest, probably, you should take the time to make sure you can get official Twin Galaxies recognition....seriously.  As well as you've done on this one and Marble Madness, there is no reason your name shouldn't be in the record books.

They're too difficult to deal with. But will be uploading the vid to Youtube, should hopefully be up by tomorrow.

First things I learned I was missing, those out of reach items in level 1 and 3, didn't realize all this time, til earlier today, that you have to get bit by the shark enemy in order to reach them, still, wasn't enough to get that much of a higher score.

Next place to earn a little extra, level 6, the fishtail item, like all items it gives you 1000 points, so I figured, stick around and collect it over and over again til my time was low, then proceed to the exit, but again, while it helps a little, not by much.

Then I figured, hell, the best things to get score from are the Ice Feet, 200 per lick, keep hitting them, but not enough to kill 'em, can rack up thousands of points in very short time. I got some big time score like this.

But, still not enough, I'd already gotten so good at the game I was confident that I could try something new, take a big risk, fighting the Ice Feet til time ran out, once it does, you are brought back in on your next life with 99 on the timer, so I repeated the procedure til I felt I had enough, abusive maybe, but does come at a cost of your lives, meaning better be really friggin' good on the last level as to not die too much.

Anyway, that last strategy was what did it for me, looped the score back to zero before I even realized it. I'm really not sure how to take this, I mean, somehow the method feels a little cheap, but then at the same time, its not because you are risking not finishing the game if you lose too many lives in the process and then totally blow it near the end. But then, where do we draw the line on what is considered abusive, Twin Galaxies places no mention on it, but then maybe they don't know about this either.

I'll upload the vids later and then everyone else can be the judge on whether they think its a fair. But regardless, the game has already become too easy, enough that I haven't lost a game yet since starting with this contest.

I don't think what you did is wrong. Whats to stop the person who legitimately runs out of time from getting extra points?

Did the same thing as Megan, but my camera batteries died when I tried to turn it on to snap a pic... not that I've got a camcorder to take a video to prove it anyway.

Megan, also, 2 more tricks you've missed:
In level 4, the green anvil that gives you 5k when it narrowly misses you after you ring the bell, that's repeatable, it'll keep doing that as many times as you let it.

In level 8, after the last lake, when you pop out, don't go to the door, but to the top right of the platform, you should see a carpet off to the right. Jump onto the carpet, it'll bring you down to a clock, an extra snake, and another water level full of only yellow pibb-fish.

So I'm not really sure about the contest either, I too have rolled the score over and I'm pretty sure we're both good enough to just abuse the points. After you play it enough, the game is kinda easy.

Your method is no different than how we racked it up on Wrecking Crew.

Well, I managed to get to Level 7 on my 5th game of this contest. The difficulty really steps up after the first 5 levels

I'm right around 275k, but I had a ton of avoidable deaths on Level 6.

Ah, didn't yet think about the anvils, dangerous but most certainly beneficial. Hmm, wow, really, never knew about that in level 8, I'll have to check that out.

I've no doubt that you rolled it over too, you've already proven to me what you are capable of as a gamer, and you seem to know this game a little bit better even than me. So, with us both being able to roll the score over, what're we to do about this contest? Call it a draw?

Honestly, the anvil was something I didn't know could be repeated until this contest...  I just happened to think about it, definately was worth the investigating.

The level 8 thing is a nice bonus, definately worth checking out.

In the interest of saving fingers, I'd definately be fine with calling it a draw.

Me too. But I'll most certainly continue to play it for a couple more days. Check out those two things you discovered. Hell, I didn't know about any of those things I'd mentioned until the contest, never played the game for score before, it wasn't all that important compared to just beating it. Guess I can try to beat it even better, see if I can lessen my deaths, that's something I'm always up for doing.

Just thought of something that I may try later, beat the game with as low a score as possible. Straight through though, no warps (I hate warps). Could be interesting, won't be able to pick up any power-ups, and will have to avoid all enemies unless they have to be defeated, and would only collect the minimum amount of nibbly pibblies. Could prove challenging, and what better time for me to try it.

Currently testing Snake Rattle 'n Roll out for a low score game, got to level 7, found out that the waterspouts there don't activate unless you get the clock right before there. I used my first continue on this level, kinda hard to get by all those drill thingies without killing at least a few of them.

Some power-ups also prove to be unavoidable. Anyway, beat it during this low score test run, used 1 continue, score at the end was 307.050, still quite high, also I need to try to beat it like this without continuing, which will be default lives + 1 (the one in level 6 atop the large waterfall seems to be unavoidable). Gotta try to find other ways to cut down on the score while still playing straight through the entire game. Maybe I'll do a no warps game as well as a warps one, see what the difference in score would be.

Oh, vids uploaded for the rolled score game: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_...

Agreed.  In the absence of videos showing a rollover and calculating an ultimate high score, we decided that contests where the scores roll over go to the first person to do so.

Sorry Randy...

If those are the rules, I've no choice but to abide by them.    No problem.
