Well I guess it goes to show, if you build it, they will knock it off.

Copy is probably a more fair term.

Knock off sounds like it's inherently inferior quality or design, and I don't really see a discernable difference on that front.

I'm not faulting a collector for wanting the "official" case.

I was just trying to establish what else might make that case special or worth owning.

It probably isn't beyond the logo. I just thought it looks pretty good.

But let's be honest, the thing could have no room for cables and controllers and fall apart if you looked at it funny and collectors would still riot to get one for the shelf.

Why would you need a carrying case for something that sits sealed on a shelf?

Or is it just that it's an official item?

RDS a.k.a. "ALS" (not to be confused with BD&A or "PowerA") has been making high quality officially licensed cases for game stuff since at least the '90s. That said, I liked their NES Classic case better than the SNES version. This seems to be based off the design of a Nintendo Switch carrying case. I bought it, but I'd probably prefer one of the RDS-style knock offs on Amazon.

They make nice stuff:

Bought 1 today. Walked in around 1030 to look for something else and they had a good 35 or so just sitting on a table in the front.

I think I can now confidently say, as I predicted, anyone who wants to find one at retail price will be able to get one before Christmas.

Bought another one, for my brother for Christmas. And this is after the store was open for 4 hours and it was in the middle of the store. You really can't miss not getting one, unless you don't try.

If only they roll out more NES ones. I would still like to buy one at $79.99.

NES rolls out summer 2018. At least that's what they at Nintendo claimed some months ago.

managed to find one on the weekend and I am enjoying it. I like the look of it and the game selection and the ease of use and the fact that there aren't 1500 games to scroll thru.

My 7 yr old daughter is having a blast playing Earthbound too, which has been fun for me to hang out with her and play it and watch her, etc.

WTB Cdn sealed black boxes, sealed Cdn first party titles.    I.e. the "mattel" Cdn boxes with both french and english.   Mainly black boxes, zelda, link, and tyson, but let me know what you have.    I am interested in anything I don't already have!

Whats the latest on packing these suckers full of SNES games? Anyone figure out how to get a complete set on there yet or do you just have to pick and choose ROMs?

Definitely can't fit the whole NTSC-U library, but probably more than half of it if you compressed the ROMs and loaded them as .zip files onto the SNES CE (or NES CE). Once you start getting into consoles above that, the space gets filled up pretty quick as you could imagine.

On my NES CE I have about 200 NES and SNES games (400 games). On my SNES CE I have roughly 10 MAME games and then only a couple dozen NES and SNES games and it's pretty much full.

What's the consensus on the availability of the SNES Mini? Have the higher production numbers made it easier for you to find locally than the NES model? Does it have less buzz?

Most definitely easier than the NES Classic Edition.

I finally snagged one last week! (More like my friend who happened to be on gamestop.com when they came in stock ordered me one)

I've successfully modded it as well, and I haven't run into many issues (aside from some games needing to use retroarch emulation (notably Terranigma, Illusion of Gaia, and Tales of Phantasia, as well as some having transparency issues like in Soul Blazer or Kirby's Dream Land 3).

My next step is to buy an 8bitdo controller for it, and I'll be in retro heaven (as it sits next to my collection of 250 SNES titles).

I love love love my snes mini, I hacked it with about 300 games mixes between nes, snes and sega. I get so much play out of it. I do need to add a wireless controller or two for sure though.
