Hey everyone!  This week's game is going to be 1943.  Here are the rules:

  • 1 life only
  • If you have to re-start a level or boss because you did not destroy enough enemies, that counts as losing a life
  • Highest score wins
  • GENRE: Shoot 'em up


The contest ends Sunday, 9/2/12 at 10 PM NA time.  Your user name must be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  Good luck everyone and have fun.


BONUS PRIZES

NA user JD is kindly giving away some 1943 related prizes this week for the contest.  Here is what is up for grabs:

1. To First place Finisher, official Arcade Flyer, and a your choice of either a famicom cart of 1943, or an oval seal NA Cart, which is a bit harder to find than the round seal.  Est. Value = $40

2. Capcom Classics Collection for PS2.  Has Arcade version of 1942, and 1943, as well as several other classics like Street Fighter and Black Tiger.  Est. Value $10

Also, two bounties for all place finishers.

1. Anyone who no-deaths the game, $25 gift card to a local game shop in your area. ( Limited to first 5.)

2.  First person to 100% level 11 gets $50 gift cash.  (must provide video evidence).

Might be the incentive for me to finally 1 life the game, but I always choke on the last level. I think ill give it a go on wednesday

Thanks for the pointer, JD.  Couldn't remember if it took you back to the beginning of the level or the boss.

Sorry you won't be able to play this week.  Last time we played this game, you kicked ass.

If you do, don't forget to add 50k to your score. 

Also, The score is not displayed after the final boss, so get your camera ready ahead of time to be safe.

That's basically why I'm not playing, I've just worked on it an unreasonably high amount of time, I'm talking for months after that competition was over....too much for it to be fair to anyone else.  You guys only get a week.

I wouldn't participate any type of Donkey Kong game for the same reason.

If you ever do 1942 again though, I'm in on that, haven't practiced that steeming pile at all.

This is about the only shootem up I can think of where using the Turbo is a disadvantage for most of the game.

All the same, yeah, it wouldn't be fair to allow it, because not everyone has one.

Well, it's been forever since I've played 1943.  So maybe I will dust it off and see if I can beat my score, I just don't want to take points away from whoever would be #1.  Maybe I could just go under the participants category.

Odd timing, as I made a purchase, that made me itch to play it anyway.

Really looking forward to see who wins this.

Yeah I'm sure you could ask bimmy or guillavoie if you can participate without collecting points. Sounds like a win win to me, more participation is always good.

I agree, I find it is not how fast you shoot, but how accurate you are.

Well sort of, that's definitely the case with 1942 since your bullets are limited to I think two shots

1943 has other specific reasons that are specific to the NES port

Ok, haven't played since June 2011. Really suprised I retained as much as I did, was hoping for one millon, but got 2,743,200 on first attempt.

Sadly my death was just a total brain fart, careless one. Got a bit too close to a plane at exactly the wrong time. Woops. But doing this well from my start, makes me optimistic, I can bump my score from last June up a couple thousand.  Time will tell.
