Someone on AG forum is running the fundraiser for a 3rd party, who has the prototype, claims it's 90% finished.  The game was done by HotGen, as a conversion of the first PSX game.  The owner wants $2,000 US to release the game, they have over $400 in one week.  Goes until February 29, 2012.

My question to the OP there was why wasn't a site like Kickstarter.com used, instead of just sending one person a lot of money via Paypal. I didn't even stop to consider the price, as I really don't know how to judge those.

I couldn't imagine it selling anywhere near $2,000 even with it being a RE game, but stranger things have happened I suppose.

I just get miffed when these owners look to cash in without giving up anything.

2k for a dump of this? ouch!

Now I know how hard it is to sell a unique, never played GBC game. Granted James' game is a homebrew and this is straight up RE... It is NOT an easy sell. I'm amazed they have received that much in donations already - what happens if they don't reach the 2k by the date? do people get their money back? does he release it anyways?

This is... how do i put it? retarded.

That's a lot of cash. I can see why they canned it, judging from the screenshots. It really doesn't look like it translated to the GBC very nicely at all. Some of the shots look pretty nice and well detailed, but some of them look completely abysmal. Shame really.

Also, qixmaster, a quote from that thread "I did put in the OP that if the total is not met then it would be upto the owner to use his discretion. If he feels the total reached is not enough then ALL donations will be refunded!"

People like this piss me off. Ask for $$ to be a pirate. I can see not wanting to release it to keep it a highly unique item and keep the contents on the cart only, but seriously, this shit pisses me off.

I personally don't see anything wrong.

It's his property, he can do what he wants with it. If people are eager and willing to fork out the cash; good for him.

If he was smart he'd make a CIB repro and cash in on it that way. I'd be a buyer.

Seller got nothing.

No shit dude, that's not the point.  It's not how little each individual donates, it's how much the owner receives for doing absolutely nothing.  $2,000 for a rom dump is lame as hell.

I'd rather support the $14,000 kickstarter homebrew thing than this. At least that dude will be doing work on the project.

I've always had the stance that someone receiving crazy money just for dumping a game was a bit rediculous.  This is one of the same problems I have with digital media, like ebooks or mp3s.  Subtracting the server costs and what not, the companies are making a lot more profit and the user is not receiving something physical.  For some reason though, the prices are not dramatically cheaper than if one was receiving the physical object; I see this a lot with books.  Anyway, I don't want to derail the thread.

I guess what bothers me about this thread is that with comments such as the "fuck no!" one which started this thread out in a great manner.  NA hosted their own dumps for money at a point, and without reading through the entire thread, I am sure that I could dig up comments that would suggest that when it was Dream and his games, it was not as bad, or perhaps people have just changed their minds since then or who knows, lol.  Just sort of rubs me the wrong way though to see people complain about something that their own community did, which they supported.

I can assure you, there were plenty of people that were strongly against it even then.  Search Matt's name or my name through any of the threads listed and you'll see plenty of comments about how we feel about community dumps.  Let me toss a few other threads at you:

http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/...

In that thread, you can quote me as saying "community dumps are horse shit"

http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/...

Another thread with less than flattering comments by Matt and myself pertaining to the same group dumps that NA conducted.

http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/...

This one is a prime example of how this community has felt about community dumps in the past.

Anyway, community dumps are weak as shit, be it here or anywhere else.

I'm not really a fan of community dumps either, but Tyson's Power Punch seemed more interesting. Wasn't thrilled about the concept, but whatever, I've wasted $25 on much more pointless things.

But $2k for a GBC game seems ridiculous, RE or not.
