Update update update...... way down below.     Still here.   9/14/19

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This post was 2013
UPDATED INFO POSTED BELOW 14 or so replies down-                                   Thought I would post this--

The past 4 years a few of my friends get back together to participate in a double elimination R.B.I. Baseball Tournament. (Usually around the MLB play offs time.) Saturday is our 4th year. 8 of us randomly pic the regular 8 teams from the game and we are stuck with this same team through out the tournament. (We do get a keg every year to make things interesting) Our League is dubbed Yom Kippur or WEST side.

Better yet- There are 8 other friends we know that have been doing this since the late 90's. We take our top 4 players and their top 4 players and have a play off. (World Series Or East Vs. West double elimination) They are East because one of their players lives on the same road I do on the east side a few houses down The East siders tournament is the 22nd.
This year will also be our 4th year for the World Series.

We have taveling trophies.

My buddy and I would play RBI way into the night way back when.  Good times.  Best baseball game in my book.  Glad you have a bunch of friends that keep the tradition alive.

Wow that is awesome man, sounds like a blast.

But umn TN... no way is RBI best baseball game. Baseball Stars is one of the best games on NES let alone the best baseball game! Come on now?

I have tried and failed to organize an effecient RBI tourney for several years now.

My favorite part is if the game gets fuzzy we called it raining and you had to play through, and if it stopped after like the 5th, the game was called and the winner won.  Rain out.

we did best of 7

I played way more Baseball Stars than I did RBI.  I agree it is a more complete game that can last as long as you want it to, but if I had to pick one baseball game to play someone else in, RBI would be it.  I really couldn't get into a Baseball Stars tourney like Nindendo Workshop is doing, but I could an RBI.

If I was to play a baseball game for a season or something then Baseball Stars is the way to go, no disagreement there.

Well the RBI series is vastly superior to Baseball Stars in terms of on-field play (com'on, you can get an in-the-park HR on every hit just by "tricking" the fielders with your base running), But BS takes it if you are talking about off-field options.

And btw, why play RBI 1 when 3 is so much better?

-------------------------

My mantra, as worded by SamSpade on 06/12/12:
I don't resell to fund my collection, I don't treat this hobby like a second job, I don't care if my collection is worth ten bucks or ten thousand because I never plan on selling it. Seriously, what does the value have to do with anything if you never plan on selling? Speculation doesn't mean jack shit to me at this point, I just want to play my nes games...

OK you do have a valid point about the tricking the fielders part Dr. M. But I spent so many days not hours building up a team of all 90/90 hitters and pitchers to whip my friends, just have too many great memories of BS. Plus we always used to play the hell outta that one in college, setup tourney's that went on forever cause you could only play when you could get people together and such. Good Times!

Because RBI 1 is so much easier to find at the local pawn shop

"It's always amazing to me how some of the most worthless games from a gaming perspective tend to fetch outrageous amounts of money. But then again, it could be said that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I'm curious if the high bidder of the $873.04 Stadium Events (cart-only) realizes that it's nowhere nearly as rare as about 20+ games I can think of that sell for 1/10th that amount?  At any rate, I wanted to draw attention to this trend: if people say it's rare, it must be true, and therefore it must be had at any price."

That is a great idea man, nothing beats the old school sports games. NES especially has great baseball and hockey games. I haven't played RBI 2 or 3 - are they similar to the first one?

Gotta back Baseball Stars though - the best baseball game on the NES that I have played.

RBI 3 gets my vote. Just never got into Baseball Stars. Heck, I used to play Bases Loaded to death at one point.

Year 10.  Still at it.  10/18/13.  I can say I won once in 9 years.  2nd last year.  Hopefully to add another 1st place notch on the traveling trophy this year with my name on it.

Loved this game! Use to rent it alot. Still looking for it in the wild (I just may break down and pay retail for it ugh).

I would love to have a RBI tourney as well. I used to do a NHL '94 tourneys and Super Tecmo Bowl ones in college. Always fun (and good call on the beer too lol).

I've been part of a 32 man tourney every two years in the midwest. $100 entry, double elimination, winner take all and...RANDOM TEAMS. So it's not all Detroit vs American etc etc.. It's been going on for at least the last 10 years if not longer. A pretty awesome experience overall, I hope you guys have a great time

On a more serious note, I've played EarthBound today for so long, I feel all tense and mentally worn out.
Then you called your mother and felt better?

Sorry to disappoint. This year I made 5th with St. Louis. Only lost by 1 point each lost game. Kept them close.
I will post a picture of the bracket once I get a picture of it.

Been awhile to post.   I am always creeping though.  Just not a big poster......
Just though I would share that I am keeping this alive.
Trying to bring in more to the old school.    Hope it goes well.

Might get a place instead of labeler....   Not sure yet.
