I've only played really simple and popular games like Doom/Wolfenstein on DosBox, but I'm trying to load an early 90's game called EarthTreks and am really struggling.

It's an .iso file that when mounted on my PC has an install.exe fill inside (with DAT install file as well). see pic below...

I'm getting the directory opened but then get stuck when loading the ISO... what do I type next??

I'm confused. You're mounting the ISO to your computer (which the game is on) but I don't see you going to that CD in dosbox. You're going to a local folder on your hard drive.

Wouldn't you need to mount c d:\ or something, and then go into c: and actually use the CD?

I don't know dosbox that well. But a question that may help others answer you question. That .iso , are you creating a virtual drive or is this an actual disc? Your folder structure lists the drive as a DVD drive. Is dosbox completable with DVD drives?

Why don't you open the ISO in windows, copy the install files from the iso to c:\dosgames\earthtrk (or whatever), then run DosBox as you have in the screenshot. Should work.

/\. That sounds good to me.

Failing that... a CD game with install.exe on it? Are you sure it's a DOS game and not a Windows game?

What does the readme file say?

This was the answer. Loaded the contents into that folder and then tried again and it went right into the install.

Kevin, you were also right, I was trying to launch straight from the .ISO which was incorrect. I was reading how to "mount an .ISO volume in DropBox" online and that sent me down the wrong path.

Does anyone else remember this game Earth Treks from 1993?.... I played the shit out of this in our school's apple computer lab. Took me a long time to even find the files for this game and now actually get it running.  The audio isn't quite right, so I might try the IBM speaker instead of the Sound Blaster and see if that fixes it. But overall super satisfying and really nostalgic, haven't see this in 25+ years, good stuff!

Thanks for all the feedback

DOS really brings back some memories of being a kid with some IBM floppies.  There is something so exciting about when the install begins!
