Not trying to be annoying, but why are people so concerned about NTSC Gimmick? I guess people want it for their Power Paks? I'd say, get the japanese one, and mod your NES (it's super-easy and super-cheap). It sounds great!

A lot of people probably don't feel comfortable modding their NES no matter how cheap or easy especially for pretty much 1 game.

There's also the translated ROM of Akumajou Densetsu, which sounds way better than Castlevania 3. I understand people not wanting to mod, but really, the mod is ridiculously easy. So easy I was able to do it with my negligible soldering skills.

I want to make a cart for myself and it'd be really easy. I don't buy repros from other people unless its something I can't make on my own, like an exclusive. I don't own a PowerPak, the Japanese Famicom cart runs in excess of $100, I haven't resistor-modded my NES (although I have been meaning to). There's my reasoning, I can't speak for others. I also wanted to experience the game as it was meant for American citizens, although I agree the Japanese version is better. And I asked because I was concerned I'd get straight-up murdered on the second-hand prices for RetroZone's cart considering it's now discontinued, it seems. There's my reasoning, I can't speak for others. I managed to find the dump though, so it's not a huge deal to me any longer.

Although I'm bummed that Powerfest won't see the light of day; I completely understand and can't wait for the HDMI NES!

That HDMI looks incredible.

I'd still like to get my hands on a Retrovision, though...

Hey, maybe RetroQuest will do it some day. The ROM is in good hands.

Kudos on all future projects for retrousb, as for power fest, i actually lent the epprom burner to dump the chips, the only let down about me releasing the cart is that i have no resources to do the physical switches for the game modes, but i had offered releasing a regular cart before...

Anyways... I want a hdmi nes!!! Is it a mod kit or an actual console??

This is easily the best news I have heard in a very long time around here. Finally, a use for the original NES PPU has been found! If only I had an HDMI capable TV. Or at least, if only there existed a CRT with an HDMI connector.

towards the end of the existence of CRT tvs both Samsung and LG both made 30" widescreen CRT with HDMI inputs. Right around 2006-2007 they stopped production on them.

Then release a regular cart, it's better than nothing. At least the dump will be out there on cartridge.

I wonder how uncommon those TVs are today.

I have a Sony WEGA HD CRT that has DVI input. I've used HDMI to DVI converters for it, so this may be perfect.

There was one available on Used Nanaimo here for last couple of months, it started out for $100 and worked its way down to Free before it was finally picked up.

Hopefully the HDMI NES comes out at the same time as the new LG OLED TV's, what a combination that will be. Better start saving, 10 grand is going to put a dent in the wallet.

I am also curious as to whether this HDMI NES will be an add on or a complete modded unit. If a complete unit, is that a modded top loader? As you commented about them in your initial post.
I personally prefer the aesthetics of the original front loader, plus my main NES console with its mods and such is begging to output HDMI now.

remember the 11" Sony OLED monitors from 2006?  $1899!?. For an 11" screen. lulz. 3mm thick in 200-frickin-6. Craziness.  Cant imagine how much a 50-60 will cost when they come to market.  Obviously the technology has been improved and cost cut but still...

i've said it before and i'll say it again. I am blown away by the pictures of the hdmi on nes. Hopefully it's an easy kit to install or maybe just sell pre-installed systems.

Does it require special components from the top loader or can it be done to toasters?

(Speaking for bunnyboy and may be completely wrong)

Right now the HDMI is an add-on to the internals of the top loader unit.  In order for it to work on a toaster he is going to have to order a completely new set of boards to fit the inside of the toaster.
